In all the games I've seen him play it's always been as a deep lying playmaker.
Ah ok. I like it!

Do you think one day we might see position names be more specific in the future? I remember the days where centre mids were just that but we've evolved into DM and AM. Maybe we could see something like this:

G: Alisson
RWB: TAA
PCB (playmaking centre back): Fabiniho
CB: Virgil
LWB: Robbo
DLP: Tiago (deep lying playmaker)
B2B: Hendo (box to box)
AM: Keita
RW: Salah
FN: Firminho (False 9)
LW: Mane

For the Football Manager inclined, our centre-backs would be playing the role of ball-playing centre-back and Salah and Mane would be inside forwards.

I think we'll always stick with the traditional positions.

Titles like playmaking centre back and deep lying playmaker are more of a role.

Ahh Torres. He broke my heart when he left. But then Suarez arrived and all was well.

Looking back it was the right thing to do. FSG have gotten it right securing big fees whsn selling big name players. Torres, Suarez, Sterling & Coutinho sales were handled well.

Suarez going was the one that set us back. Only Salah coming 3 years later effectively replaced him.

Yeah I was heart broken at the time as we didnt know Suarez would be Suarez. But Torres was quickly forgotten particularly as he fell off a cliff.

The Suarez sale though yeah, that one not only hurt but he was not irreplaceable and we used the money we got for him so poorly.

All is well now though. Casually champions! :)

Yep, Torres mid season hurt initially. FSG then blew 35m on Carroll right away. Stark contrast to the Cout sale where we held fire once we sold him and spent sensibly.

Looking back 50m for an injury prone Torres back in 2011 was insane business by Chelsea.

It was more denial then acceptance that Torres’ form was diminished. We sold him at his highest price and did very well. Who we replaced him with? None other then Suarez, who we then sold him for significant money. Great business all round

Know what’s weird? He has played more games for Liverpool then he has for Man City.
Honestly when we first got him, thought for maybe 2-3 seasons. But he’s been incredibly versatile and durable. All in his 30s. Impressive stuff.

One of the most professional players the PL has ever seen. I fully expect him to go on and play at Leeds until he is 40 once he finishes up with us.

Good to see he left City to pursue his dream of winning CL football even if it meant he took a hit on wages.

Milner has played for quite a few clubs now but if I'm not mistaken, he has now played more games for us than any other club in his career. That's pretty cool.

Leeds
Newcastle
Villa
City
Liverpool

Quite the career. Also played cricket at a high level in Yorkshire. Just goes to show how far hard work, perseverance and detrmination go. Milner is certainly not the most naturally talented player around but gets 110% out of himself and is totally professional.

Leeds United 54
Swindon Town 6
Newcastle United 136
Aston Villa 126
Manchester City 203
Liverpool 216
