Just read Hird's report in the Herald-Sun

Just felt the article should have opened with "Now the players have been found guilty I am going into damage control"

Distanced himself from Dank and Robinson as much as possible.
Threw everyone under the Bus.
The more of the transcript you read , the more ludicrous the Essendon players evidence. They dissemble, contradict, alter their evidence under cross examination and basically lie. On top of this , we have Tim Watson, Lloyd, Rohan Connelly and others apologists hopelessly,
trying to salvage the wreck. Today they dragged Sheedy out again...how pathetic can they be!

The Hird article in today's HS. Two things I think need to be put next to each other:

In effect, Dr Reid's role was the only significant check on the supplements regime, and yet when he raised his concerns in January 2012, the first meeting held about them was in the 'weeks leading up to ANZAC Day' on 25 April. All that was done prior to that was an email to Robinson. Hird was so blithe about the program that he didn't even follow up on Reid to see where that letter was he asked him to write.

It seems like such an obvious oversight you'd expect at least some element of remorse from Hird. but there's a strong tone of defiance here. He presents these governance measures apparently in the expectation that people will agree that he discharged his responsibilities properly. I imagine there'll be some uncritical readers who agree with them.
From the age:

On January 30, Hird text: “No stress but need to organise a meeting with you me Reidy, Danksy and Weapon the day you get back. Reidy has stopped everything which is getting a little frustrating. Need to get your United Nations skills back into action.”

Just STFU Hird. You are becoming a parody of yourself.

Depends if they exit as delisted free agents or standard free agents. If it's the former, no compensation for Essendon.

DFA.

Reference: Some article. :)

Having read that Age article from above link, it is mind boggling how any journo's/media commentators or supporters of Essendon can feel sorry for, support or defend James Hird and the club.

Chilling stuff. The man should be banned for life from going near any football club ever again.

I feel for the players, but that is life. Perhaps it is time they finally saw the light and became independant of the club and think/speak for themselves.

Won't happen though with the managers hovering around looking out for themselves.

While all this talk about legal action is going on, the saga will just continue.

Time to accept the findings and get on with life.

Gave up on this ages ago when someone suggested that the advice handed to Essendon was to shred and dispose of all documentation in their possession.... as it was far better for the club they'd be found guilty for non governance and fined $2 Million and the club get rid of those involved in the administration of the programe

All 17 clubs collectively thought the same thing in regards to that news.

If we could manage to grab him that'd be so huge for us.
We can offer a place out of the intense media spotlight. Come to the Lions and the rest of the AFL community will forget about you.

Can someone please post the tird (I think the name fits ) article from the Herald. I can't access it.

From what I gather it is tird saying it was all Dank's fault. If Dank decides to finally respond to this provocation we could be in for an interesting fireworks show. Two ultra egos battling it out irrespective of the damage they do. Lets face it - the didn't give a rats about the players health or careers when they were trying to cheat their way to glory so they won't hold back if it comes to dueling it out now.

Can someone remind me of why Kyle Reimers was criticized in the fallout of this saga years ago? If memory serves, and I could be wrong, but would he be somewhat vindicated now?
McVeigh had a go at him about it "just being vitamins" and how it was all above board. Reimers is very much vindicated, although I'm sure it's bitter sweet given he's also banned from footy for a year.

Why isn't Courtney Dempsey banned? I thought Zaharakis was the only player who isn't caught up in it all.
He was recovering from a knee reco and so wasn't part of the program. Winderlich was the same, I believe.

The cynical argument is that a player recovering from a serious injury like that has greater oversight from the team's medical staff and so the likes of Dank couldn't get their hands on them to experiment.

Yes, although he took part in the program, IIRC, he was suspicious of the legality of the program and it contravening doping laws, but the fact he was ostracized by key players, including McVeigh, goes to highlight what a tool McVeigh proved himself to be and how ignorant most of the players were, particularly the senior players led by McVeigh blinded by their sick obsession with Hird.

The story with WADA is over - I'd suggest legal stoushes will continue to wage for many years over this case.

What a scripted, stage managed farce that Hird interview was. Holmes should be embarrassed at the gentle beach balls she wafted at Hird for an hour.

After seeing her tweets from 2013, where she claimed many people owed Stephen Dank an apology, I expected nothing more. Hird cherry picked her for a reason. Was a waste of time watching it.

It started out like it was going to be serious, but obviously that was just for form's sake.

Seriously concerning how Hird seemed to concede quite a bit under the obvious, early questions and then became noticeably happier and more comfortable once Holmes started to ask him about other people's responsibility. He battles under even the most gentle of interrogations.

Didn't even ask about the text messages. A feint in the direction of objectivity and then onto laying out a platform for Hird. A missed opportunity.
