I think the people having the wedding on GF day are more selfish.

There are two days you do not have a wedding - GF day and Melbourne Cup Day.

They should get a reception venue where you have a bar & big screens & have the shindig early so the games on during the reception. Remember watching the Carlton demolition job we did in the `99 qualifying final at a cousins wedding. There was no way I was missing it, so I got the bar to put the game on for me and excused myself as a rabid lions fan who could not miss a final. By half time a good number of the blokes present decided my example was enough to get up, leave the Mrs & come watch the footy. Got a few of the family into the AFL that night. As for Melb Cup day.. it's what.. a 5 minute pause? Horse racings about as entertaining as licking dry ice over a day.

I hope for a mate the Cats get up but unlike last year if they don't I certainly wont lose any sleep over it.

If it is who I am thinking of, he's just a closeted Lions supporter anyway. ;)

If youre from Melbourne, which you are not, that 5 minute pause is only from what you've been doing most of the day - which is eating, drinking and punting.

Take away the gambling and you've got the same ingredients as you would at the wedding. I'm not really a gambling man myself. Footy's the one thing I'm most likely to have a go on, other than that I'll buy a scratchie once a year or have a punt on the cup. But I think the notion that you couldn't make a wedding work well around that is absurd. The people are already pissed, the party's already on. You can have your bet & that 5mins is not hard to work around. Add a wedding to the day and you've got an absolute monster time on. If people can get married hanging from hot air balloons or skydiving why not in conjunction with a major sporting event. Or are you just not a fan of weddings?

Ok...what's the deal with so many people barracking for Hawthorn 'cause they are shit-scared of Geelong (maybe) emulating our 3-peat.???

If Geelong, or any other team in the future win 2, 3, 4 or 8 in a row, good on them.....can't see how that diminishes the feats of our champion Lions 2001-03 in any way

FFS,Don't let paranoia get in the way of enjoying what is shaping as a really good GF.

I'm slightly favoring the Hawks because of the reasons stated in my earlier post but certainly not because I can't handle the concept of the Cats going B2B and then having a shot of equaling our record.

It's a game between two teams that most of us couldn't give a shit about, so people pick fairly arbitrary reasons to cheer one way or another... someone might cheer for Geelong because their cousins live there, we pick Hawthorn because of the sanctity of our threepeat.

If it had been Bulldogs vs Hawthorn, I'd be cheering for Hawthorn because Aker would've been insufferable. Crows vs Freo, go Freo because I feel sorry for them, etc etc etc. Games tend to be pretty damn dull if we're not allowed to cheer for someone for whatever reason we feel like pulling out.

I like the sounds of counting down the days til the cricket season starts. I can't wait til Australia play whoever in the first test - bring it on.

Yeah he is really hoping the Cats win on Saturday, but it just isn't the same as 2001 to 2003;)

We are all taking about bloking Geelong's Three Peat. I think the winner of this may be the only one of the two teams to have a crack at the three peat.

If Geelong lose Don't think they have 3 years of sustained sucess left.

If Hawthorn lose one of their years at the top is gone.

Early call but I think regardless of Saturdays Result this could be the match up fpr the 2009 Grand Final.

I only want the Hawks to win so we keep our 3-peat effort in the legend status because if Geelong win this week there will be no stopping them matching and even surpassing our magnificent effort and all of a sudden we are the forgotten feat.

See, I think this rationale is just silly.

Why do any Lions supporters have to feel insecure or threatened just because another club might get close to our "record"

They haven't won 2 in a row yet.

And so if the Hawks win it, are we then then going to spend all next season fretting about the possibility that they might do a double and then maybe a treble.?

I just don't get it.

i dont think anyone seriously is worried about the record, however no one wants to see us lose our three in a row so quickly. for me its a bit of fun. i really dont care who wins, but if i have to choose, i'll go hawks so the cats dont have 2 in a row. would also be good to see crawf get a flag.

either way its sure to be a cracking game and really looking forward to it this year.
