It's called QA. If the senior umpire has an odd opinion, it would be fleshed out and balanced out if the other umpires didn't vote for that guy.
And if it was an admin error made by the senior umpire - it would have been balanced out too as the other umpires would be very unlikely to all make the same error when giving their votes.
But regardless, he real answer here is "who really gives a shit?"
It's an opinion award given by umpires. Who really cares who they think played well?
I mean, the umpires tell us they are so intensely focused on each contest that they can't tell which player is which, what the score is or how much time is left - so why do people think they're capable of making legit assessments on the value and performance of each player on the ground? It's just an absurd expectation.
Just take it for what it is.
