I think that's jumping the shark a little bit.

TDK hasn't blown the game apart, he's been ok in patches and beaten in patches - particularly the previous 2 games v Rich & Collingwood.

He played well Saturday and Browns point of comparing it to how he played Darcy the first time shows he's certainly come a long way but he's also not a $1m man by any stretch. Kane just basing that off 1 game where he played well.
Good post.

The post-game chat here (me included) has been full of praise for TDK's game. I felt it was a real break-out game for him - I've previously been far from convinced that he's our long-term number one ruck option, but this game has changed my mind... a bit. I'm now wondering how we'll set up when Pitto returns. And indeed, whether Pitto will come straight back in.

However, on further reflection, I wonder if it's more that TDK held his own against a strong opponent - one that was expected to dominate him. It seemed, watching the match, that TDK had a far greater influence on the outcome, and perhaps that's true. But the stats don't bear that out. Perhaps this is just one of those times when the stats don't tell the real story.

I'm excited to see what TDK will bring over the remainder of the year and what he might become in the next year or two. But will he be the dominant ruck we all hope he might? I don't know... (how's that for fence-sitting!!)

For reference, ruck stats from the match:

Darcy clearly won the hitouts, and hitouts to advantage. Perhaps worth noting though, that Darcy had just the one mark for the match!

What he said was that if he continues on this path, he'd be in a comparable position to Luke Jackson by the time he's out of contract at the end of next year. And Jackson is getting offered a mill a year. It's going to be a nice problem to have if that eventuates, but a problem nonetheless.

I reckon if he puts together a good back half of the year, the club would be keen to tie him into an extension pretty quickly.

At the end of first crack on Foxtel tonight ,(probably the best of the informative footy shows) each panel member nominates their top four. Kingy and Huddo had us as 4th seed behind dees, lions and cats from memory.

Joey Montagna didn't have us in, fair enough he's entitled to his opinion, but he had Freo in as his third seed. Seems a big strange - anyone would think that he is on their payroll.
Yer love first crack better then all the other shows they can p**s off that stupid best on ground

Just trying to push up the blues salary cap
We’re onto you sugar

Montagna isn't an example of the AFL Media's creeping bias against us ... Clearly an opinion and tbh given our games to come and percentage not a silly one. 5-6th I reckon.
Montagna is a bit of an early crow type. He tries to see parterns early and jumps onto it as a conclusion.

He jumped on us early and then jumped off. He ditched Melbourne early. He jumped on Tigers early and being most likely for premiers and 1 week later, they are out of the top 4. Now he's on Pies. Basically he will keep casting nets and when one finally hits, he will think he called it.

There are two people in particular that have maintained the rage for us (not as loudly some weeks):

Gerard Whateley
Gary Lyon

Especially Whateley and I must say, I need to apologise to him. I wanted to smash him last year about the shit he threw at us, but at the end of the day, he was right. Has jumped on us early is still there.

I believe Gary Lyon was sold when we defeated Melbourne in the Pre-Season game. He called that game and references it often.

Whateley is not allowed on our band wagon as much as he wants to get on now more than anyone else in the media. Couldn't see what we were building last year and where we could improve. Showed a lack of vision to see all we needed was a decent game plan.

I don’t mind Gary Lyon

I did agree with this sentiment, but disagree with it now.

He was off us when he should have been off us. He was quite adament that we're really underperforming and he has been proven right.

Laid the boots in when we sacked Teague saying it was Carlton being Carlton.

No one was disagreeing that we were underperforming, it was him saying he couldn't see where improvement would come from.

Disagree, it was the least Carlton thing we've done this century - the outcome was almost carltonish, if we'd got either Clarkson or Lyon on big bucks - but committing to a top down review, hiring a great CEO and assistants, hiring an unfashionable coach and reviewing reporting lines and responsibilities is some we've never seen.

Melbourne and Geelong will finish top 2.
cats still have dees, dogs, us and I think gc away among others , but their 9 games at the litter box and 2 each against norf & wc make it a virtual walk-up start

What people (media) tend to forget, Melbourne outright said they'll be playing their best during the pre-season and bring their A-grade game. And there we were a few months off a pre-season under a new coach playing the reigning premiers and we blitzed them for a half.

I didn't expect we would be 10-4 after that game (thought we would break even 1st half of the season then improve 2nd half, but I actually felt relieved/excited that the style of play was what I yearned to see us play, contested and sharing the ball with more composure.
