Darcy also got 3 tackles and 4 clearances (2 clangers) compared to TDK's 2 tackles and 3 clearances (3 clangers). One contested mark to 2.Good post.
The post-game chat here (me included) has been full of praise for TDK's game. I felt it was a real break-out game for him - I've previously been far from convinced that he's our long-term number one ruck option, but this game has changed my mind... a bit. I'm now wondering how we'll set up when Pitto returns. And indeed, whether Pitto will come straight back in.
However, on further reflection, I wonder if it's more that TDK held his own against a strong opponent - one that was expected to dominate him. It seemed, watching the match, that TDK had a far greater influence on the outcome, and perhaps that's true. But the stats don't bear that out. Perhaps this is just one of those times when the stats don't tell the real story.
I'm excited to see what TDK will bring over the remainder of the year and what he might become in the next year or two. But will he be the dominant ruck we all hope he might? I don't know... (how's that for fence-sitting!!)
For reference, ruck stats from the match:

Darcy clearly won the hitouts, and hitouts to advantage. Perhaps worth noting though, that Darcy had just the one mark for the match!
Think this is one of those appearances are deceiving things. Darcy had a stronger game, but he was expected to; TDK didn't shame himself at all, and that massive centre clearance leap put everything Darcy did in the shade. Darcy also seemed to tire the longer the game progressed, where Tom got better, stronger, leapt higher and harder.
A ruckman is a bit like a wicket keeper. You're only going to notice when your own bloke's dropping absolutely everything and you're getting pantsed. TDK also had a lot more confidence than the last game he played against Darcy, and the rest of the team brought their game significantly more than they did last time. We're a different squad now, and there's a good deal more team defense than we ran early in the season.
