My advice is only watch the media and read the newspaper after a Carlton win.
not good enough for some - every pundit has to pick us for the flag pre-season, stick tough as we waiver over winter and then pour on the mayo as the finals approach - anything less is considered anti-calton - we seriously must have the most insecure fans in the league.........

cats still have dees, dogs, us and I think gc away among others , but their 9 games at the litter box and 2 each against norf & wc make it a virtual walk-up start

dropped one against Freo at Parochialism Central earlier in the year I believe, matchup against the Dees is not straight forward - hopefully leaving them battered and weary for us the next week. But 7 likely wins from 9 and two toss-ups is a pretty decent spot.

Glad someone else sees the GC game as difficult.

Don't think they are certainties for top 2 - top 4 is v. likely though.

agree that the media narrative changed a couple of years back from Carlton are shit to WTF are Carlton doing? to look at all the exciting talent assembled and further to considering the Blues as a mature, competitive side.

and now perhaps as a realistic contender.

some won't be satisfied until we are continuously feted the way anyone wearing yellow and black were imbued with mystical talents for a few years.

actually, neither will I; but not because I think that's realistic nor appropriate.

In the meantime, reasonable criticism of our failings and intelligent analysis of our weaknesses should always be welcomed.

Montagna is a bit of an early crow type. He tries to see parterns early and jumps onto it as a conclusion.

He jumped on us early and then jumped off. He ditched Melbourne early. He jumped on Tigers early and being most likely for premiers and 1 week later, they are out of the top 4. Now he's on Pies. Basically he will keep casting nets and when one finally hits, he will think he called it.

There are two people in particular that have maintained the rage for us (not as loudly some weeks):

Gerard Whateley
Gary Lyon

Especially Whateley and I must say, I need to apologise to him. I wanted to smash him last year about the s**t he threw at us, but at the end of the day, he was right. Has jumped on us early is still there.

I believe Gary Lyon was sold when we defeated Melbourne in the Pre-Season game. He called that game and references it often.
King jumped on us very early on and hasn't jumped off yet, he - along with Whately - have stayed the course knowing it's a rough patch for us with injury and the tough part of our schedule - and not us playing badly.

that club has done wonderfully in bonding a disparate group of forced emigres and some journeymen.
loving 'emigres' but you'll do well to top "opprobrium" and you'll never get matt and mr fabulous out of them high paying gigs.........

gc are playing like a club, a team, it's what gws would love to be able to do with some consistency...........dew will get re-signed no doubt and rightly so.......

We will be hoping for some success in the next couple of years because the GC are coming fast and are stacked with talent. Imagine if Ben King was there this year.

GWS was built on talented individuals - GC has a culture and an ethos right now.

It's becoming a genuine footy club.

There's a reason they pushed May out the door a year early and weren't unhappy at Lynch leaving (both player driven moves, btw...[although Lynch was leaving anyway the players wanted him gone]). It's not a coincidence that since then the players since have stuck around...

Interesting that culture shift starts just as the 2 captains are shipped off.

obviously would only getting the 2nd key defender too...

You think?

I'd play the best defender on him ahead of Chol or Casboult.

Whately seems to have only jumped on this year

I think the media generally move in "the now', with only a couple of exceptions that understand how it may unfold in the next phase. Melbourne lose 3 games in a row (while May was out) and all of a sudden, are they good enough. Spank Lions, they are back, Lions are in trouble, rinse and repeat

Dockers will beat Carlton, now Carlton are a contender and Dockers have concerns

Most is a narrative to attract the viewing audience

it was - how terrible someone say so.........
Things end badly otherwise they wouldn't end. We did a review and what is now plainly obvious is that there was a problem with the coach. It wasn't Carlton being Carlton, like when Jack said Britain was a good coach but we sacked him because we could get a better coach in Pagan. It was Carlton being a professional organization and identifying a problem and rectifying it, even if a nice guy was hurt in the process. We then went through a proper process to find a new coach that aligned with the values the Club wanted to uphold. Throughout the process they ignored the noise from the media.

Thankfully, I haven't heard the "Carlton gave up big leads against Port and Hawthorn" narrative for a few weeks.

Case in point. If we were to give up a similar lead in the near future, even if we win the game by a decent margin, it'll be used again.

Clickbait and manufactured intrigue is the model.

I see this as well. The media do reflect the mainstream supporter too. Pre season Carlton ‘are crap’. No insight at all to the talent that just needed a mediocre transition plan to shine.

The other example like you said. We beat Freo so Freo are crap and we are a contender. The stupidity hurts.

why is insight important because players like Fisher and JSoS wouldn’t be playing for us with a mainstream media or supporter view.

whateley tipped us to win it all pre-season in I think 2012? iirc we won the first 3 (belting rich by 7 goals, lions by 15 goals & pies by 10 goals) lost to * and it just went to hell afterwards along with his best wishes........

we still sacked the coach..........

I near fell off my tea chest when kingy said we bashed teams up - that hasn't been said with any conviction this century........

They've only got 2 potential lay down miseres, with North (next) and finishing off with the Weagles. The rest of their games are Melb, Us, Bulldogs, Saints, Port (Adel), Sun (GC) of which if each of those plays at least close to their best it's anyones game in particular the games where Stewart is missing makes it much easier.
