FFS, they ran the biggest doping regime the sport has ever seen, they lied, played dumb, covered it up and then squealed scapegoat for literally years.
Their supporters, or at least a shit tonne of them, carried on like Hird and his ilk should never have been investigated to start with, and that Jobe should never have lost his brownlow.

Some of them are still doing it, and a certain few bring it all up every 6-12 months asking for apologies and “the truth to finally come out”.

But we can’t have one thread on here to shit can them about it when they do?

Hawks drafting in 2004 was not immediately liked by many posters in social media.

I guess they preferred Wallace’s opinion that he had stolen the draft than our own clubs discussion about why, when

Hawk headquarters and SEN talk back. May have been 3aw days

We also had the furore over who ghosted who between board member Brereton and coaching prospect mark Harvey. Hawks fans believed Harvey mostly

The chairman Paul Little spent $millions on trying to protect Hird's reputation and ultimately failed.

Hird got knocked off his bike in South Yarra and later tried to self-delete.

Hird took ASADA to court multiple times, for having the audacity to investigate his club.

One of my favourite memes from the period was all about how “I’m James ****ing Hird!” And nothing captured it better than the papers presented to court outlining just that… which was ultimately made even better by Bigfooty with a small addition of red type.

What's with all the Essendon love in this thread lately?

Orchestrated, organisation-wide cheating.

Never forget it. Don't let them forget it. I endorse this thread entirely.

A reminder:
  • they don't know what they took
  • they're sure it wasn't illegal
  • even if it was illegal they didn't take THAT kind
  • Watson talking about an unprecedented number of injections and bragging about how big players got over a single summer.
  • Essendon's playing list undergoing a Geelong 2007-like transformation
  • coaches chatting between each other about 'the good stuff'
  • James Hird fake tan injections (hahaha)
  • It's on a spreadsheet - but nobody can find it
  • Hird was trying to feather his own nest financially by getting involved in investment meetings with the creators of the drugs that they apparently weren't taking once it was discovered the compounding loophole isn't a loophole

But of course, Essendon were the victims.

And that's just the drug saga - there's a life long history of Essendon being assholes to Hawthorn. This is my favourite tribal rivalry and I refuse to let it go.

Yep to all above.
But it’s much worse than that for a number of reasons.
The major one being that the players lied - repeat, they lied.

In filling out their mandatory drug control forms, that did not admit, as they were required to do, that they took peptides, or whatever they thought they were routinely being injected with. Clearly there was a conspiracy amongst players and club officials they they should be dishonest in filling out their forms.

Needless to say, the players’ credibility was taken into account by the Court of Arbitration for Sport

  • players consistently signed declaration forms stating they had only taken things like Paracetamol even though players admitted to routinely receiving injections off-site.
  • vials labelled "Thymomodulin" were photographed at the off-site injection location, but claimed to not be that one type of thymosin that would have had any benefit to an elite sporting program, or the type referred to in SMS by Essendon stakeholders.
  • Jobe Watson admitting he believes he received AOD-9604 on national TV.
  • Mark McVeigh admitted to routine injections of "vitamin C or vitamin B" even though both these are absorbed very effectively by oral methods.
  • much, much more!

THIS! Was giving the players the benefit of doubt, almost felt sorry for them, and then this came out.

That's right! AOD 9604! That's the experimental drug that James Hird was (allegedly) personally investing in.

I had forgotten about Mark McVeigh aggressively defending himself and his playing group by saying they were injected with vitamin C or B. hahaha
The article is still on the AFL site - he paid out on Kyle Reimers who'd just been delisted.

That article just highlights the absurdity and sheer dishonesty of the players’ position.
If what they were taking was perfectly legal (as McVeigh is asserting), then why did all of the players specifically decline from declaring those so-called legal drugs, as injected over a period of months, in the requisite drug control forms. It was a mandatory requirement that all players had to specify drugs and supplements they were taking.

The other significant point is this.
While Essendon asserted the drug regime was legal, the architects of the drug procurement and administration regime declined to give evidence to support Essendon’s case before the CAS !!
Now, if you’re asserting the drugs as injected were legal, surely the club would call those people, who procured and administered those drugs, to give evidence to CAS to support its case.
The reason why that didn’t happen is bleedingly obvious. Dank and Robinson and Hird in particular would have been shredded in cross examination if they’d given evidence.

Of course you'd hire a chemist to synthesise vitamin B and C shots to regularly inject into your playing list in an off-site location without the knowledge of your long-term club doctor.

It would be absurd to just provide those vitamins via a cheap, safe and effective oral supplement manufactured by league sponsor Swisse.

The story is completely logical, Mark.
