Their supporters, or at least a shit tonne of them, carried on like Hird and his ilk should never have been investigated to start with, and that Jobe should never have lost his brownlow.

Some of them are still doing it, and a certain few bring it all up every 6-12 months asking for apologies and “the truth to finally come out”.

Clearly there was a conspiracy amongst players and club officials they they should be dishonest in filling out their forms.

Needless to say, the players’ credibility was taken into account by the Court of Arbitration for Sport

That article just highlights the absurdity and sheer dishonesty of the players’ position.
If what they were taking was perfectly legal (as McVeigh is asserting), then why did all of the players specifically decline from declaring those so-called legal drugs, as injected over a period of months, in the requisite drug control forms. It was a mandatory requirement that all players had to specify drugs and supplements they were taking.

The other significant point is this.
While Essendon asserted the drug regime was legal, the architects of the drug procurement and administration regime declined to give evidence to support Essendon’s case before the CAS !!
Now, if you’re asserting the drugs as injected were legal, surely the club would call those people, who procured and administered those drugs, to give evidence to CAS to support its case.
The reason why that didn’t happen is bleedingly obvious. Dank and Robinson and Hird in particular would have been shredded in cross examination if they’d given evidence.

You have to be incredibly gullible to think that a professional sports club who monitors player’s sleep, diet, GPS numbers, weights programs, etc…..just allowed their number 1 commodity to be injected with god knows what for a period of months, and that it was never outlined, reviewed or reported back to the football director or club board over that time how this program was tracking.

There was so much bullshit spun by the AFL and its media at the time, and as I’ve said quite a few times in here the best thing(for Essendon and the AFL) that they ever did was rush through the Ziggy report’s findings which allowed them to seed the narrative into the media and the masses of “plausible incompetence” and by extension, deniability.

It worked.

Yep, there is no way the exact substances and dosages given wasn't recorded. And Demetrio tipping them off meant everything was destroyed. I'm sure it was all on a separate system but they certainly would have tracked it.

As you said they know how far the players run in training and games, they know their PB for every lift and run they do. They know how long they practice goal kicking and limit it due to stress injury risk.

It is unbelievable how even neutrals try to excuse Essendon's mass cheating. The contrast to when a Chinese swimmer is under suspicion of doping when 1. that swimmer likely doesn't get regular education about doping like AFL players do. 2. do not have access to hotline to check banned status. 3. May not know at all what they are given as drugs. 4. do not have high standards of food quality control to know exactly what is in their food (see baby formula, gutter oil, plastic rice scandals) 5. May not have a choice to refuse.

Yet the kid under a dictatorship with no knowledge or choice gets 0 sympathy but Old mate Dustin Fletcher with 20 years in the game got duped? but also didn't take anything banned?

A march to the stadium, handing out tshirts that read ‘welcome back our returning heroes’ and then the biggest conman in footy history, Kevin Sheedy got on the microphone pre game and revved their putrid fan base up into an absolute frenzy.

That was the most feral night I’ve ever witnessed at the footy, Essendon fans are the worst supporter base in world sport and every single bad thing that happens to them still won’t be enough.

He did Jack sh*t !

Part of the problem was that he was very close to coach Hird and to the pathetic club chairman David Evans. He was obviously encouraged to roll over and do nothing, despite the fact that he had been initially so concerned as to write a strong letter of condemnation at the outset.
