You ever met the great man? One of the nicest footy blokes i've ever met. If ever there was a footy player who could be excused for being arrogant, Huddo is that man, but he was a real gentleman and actually took the time to talk to me and my friends.

Class personified. :thumbsu:

Yes, I had the pleasure of meeting Huddo in the clubrooms at Glenferrie many years ago. He was my boyhood hero, and to find Huddo standing next to me at the bar was a surprisingly awkward feeling. Suddenly I felt like a 13 year old again, looking up to my hero .. even though we are the same height.

As a boy, you hold all sort of ideals about your heroes, as if they were perfect. I'd heard other mates tell stories about meeting theirs, and being really disappointed. Huddo sensed I was a little in awe and eased me by buying a beer and we had a chat. He was everything I hoped he would be, and more. It was hard to believe I was chatting with the greatest goalkicker in the game's history.

Another fine person I know through football is Ron Kneebone. He won the 1966 Magarey Medal and stood Huddo in the 1966 AFC Carnival in Hobart. Ron is also a nice person, a gentleman in every respect of the word, and he told me that Huddo and he still keep in contact to this day. I never asked Huddo at the time, but I heard him say once that one of the toughest full backs he ever stood was Ron Kneebone from SA.

Anyway, out of time and must get to work, it is always a pleasure to discuss Peter Hudson, such wonderful memories.

I watched the 1971 GF again last night. Kelvin Moore was a hero in this game. He repelled at least seven St.Kilda attacks in the last quarter. His reading of the play, and marking was sublime. Brilliant comeback in the last with some crucial early goals by Matthews and Crimmins early and then It was the Keddie show. The Hawks appeared superbly fit.
