I like this bit in the Age, part of an article written by a secret footballer;

"Engage Lance Franklin in a marking contest and pray for support on the ground when the ball hits the deck - as it often does because of his dodgy thumbs or his one true chink: the inability to take a pack mark.

(As exciting and dynamic as ''Buddy'' is, he has never been able to take pack marks like Travis Cloke, Nic Naitanui or Drew Petrie. Crash the pack, recover and snap from 50 metres? Sure, no worries. But taking a grab when the big men fly? Not so much.) "

Thanks secret footballer, master of the bleeding obvious, but we've known that for years. I've often said if Franklin could take a strong contested overhead mark he'd be one of the great players of the modern era, but he cannot. I know I'm old fashioned in many respects, but I just cannot abide players of his height and mobility who cannot catch a ball in the air, especially one-out.

I love how:

1) The headlines suggest Buddy is being a hooligan.
2) You read the article and it is revealed that Buddy's car was loaned to a "friend," and that it was this "friend" that was in the accident, not Buddy.
3) The "friend" is not named.
4) You have to go elsewhere to find that it was in fact Hannebury who wrecked Buddy's car. So Buddy was in fact doing a good deed and sneakily gets blamed for it.

Bloods culture, indeed.

I want to throttle the people behind the article.

Meh, it's journalism, it's what they do.

Wasn't so bad in Franklin's younger years when he still had the outrageous speed & agility for a big man. Once he lost that -much of it anyway- he really came back to the pack. Defenders really wised up to him always looking for the cheapy out the back/over the top which didn't help either.

Yep, and I never understood why Franklin opted to stand and contest one-out contests rather than run to space on the lead.

Hope Buddy hasn't been driving. Not sure for how long but you can't drive for a certain period of time after a seizure.

National guidelines are 12 months, unless there are extenuating circumstances, e.g. was off medication at the time but back taking medication which would otherwise have prevented the seizure.

So, hypothetically, if it were induced under ingestion of something known to cause a seizure, then consumption stopped, there may not be any suspension.

When it comes down to it, it's up to the patient's doctor doing the paperwork.

You can only keep driving if you also have a NSW Licence.
If you only have a Victorian licence, once you lose it, you cannot drive in any other state.

These records are accessible all around Australia, and the NSW cops will know if your licence is cancelled.

Yes, she does have a NSW licence (or at least she did at that time). She was driving on that licence whilst she was visiting Melbourne for her work. All I'll say is that she's a muso, so drinking was a pretty big part of her after gig routine at that time.

At the time, I remember her being worried about it affecting her ability to drive at home.

Ha ha, you've hit the nail on the head!
I'm sure the cops never heard that excuse before.

"But, officer, I wasn't the driver, my blonde friend here was driving. He just happened to be sitting on my knee."

They have heard similar though:

"No Officer..... Alan Didak wasnt in my car..... I called him and he walked down here" - Heath Shaw

If any of this is true, it just goes to show how amazing our club is that as soon as he goes elsewhere, there are so many issues apparently.

This on SEN today about how bad things are going up there:

Whoa! That does not sound too good for the Swans. It did not take long for Franklin to start the rot. Covert Hawks affairs!

Apologies if this has already been discussed. I'm in Bangkok at the moment and not up with all the news. I've received word, and I hasten to add this is pure speculation, but my contact is telling me that this car accident involving Franklin's car and Hannebury is being treated very seriously by the Swans.

They are suspecting Franklin was driving the car and Hannebury is taking the rap. I'm told there are huge concerns at Sydney with the behaviour of Franklin and not very pleased with the way Hannebury is being led astray by Franklin's off field antics. The word also is a number of Swans players are not very happy with Franklin being virtually a law unto himself while they have to tow the line.

I reiterate, this is rumour only, but IF it were true, would any of us be the least bit surprised?

Speaking of being in Bangkok, I walked into a massive book store in the Siam Paragon, I think it was called Kinokuniya. They had books on every conceivable subject. Sport wise, they had 2 full shelves on Manchester United alone, let alone other soccer books. There were shelves on golf, tennis, cricket and just about every other sport imaginable. I searched for Aussie Rules, and there was 1 lousy book. Really puts a light on where we truly stand in world standings.

Oh, and you will never guess what that book was ......... FEV in his own words. I hope the Thais aren't judging our game on the strength of that book. :)

"Aussie velly sirry people".

OOPS .... just looked up the page and the Franklin incident has been discussed. Apologies.

How good is it that we don't have to worry about Buddy anymore? None of his off-field behaviour has any impact on our club, and I love it.

Yes, it seems as though this is turning into a major headache for Sydney, and they deserve it.

Doubt Hannerbury is being led astray, moreso birds of a feather.
