The Gavin Urqhart for Patrick Veszpremi trade

There's lots of upside in Vez, but whether or not he fulfills that potential is anyone's guess. Wouldn't mind if the club kept him or traded him. He's done nothing to impress so far but you know he could one day.

Reminds me of a guy called Nick Davis? Anyone heard of him?

The Swans are the ones doing the raping in that trade and you are still unhappy?
I never said at any point I'd be unhappy with it... I just outlined that three way trades like that are fictional and very, very rarely occur.

But if that deal was offered to me... yes, I would take it.

Could be that both clubs are using floating their names to give them the kick up the arse they both seem to need.

I hope that is the case Kimbo, Veszpremi needs something to get that talent that he has out.

Would be nuts to flick Urquhart at this stage. Top 20 pick or nothing. No elite players will be wanting to come to North at this stage, so a decent pick is the only option.

Brad Scott needs a wife, so he doesn't spend so much time reading bigfooty and the sad opinions of bradroo and the other 'building to fail' Laidley victims. Half of the hate for Gav is from bradroo playing down footskill and pace to justify Rawlings slow and tedious rebound. Gav could be anything and clowns dont realise another season will highlight his talents much further for a much better trade than is currently possible.

-Urqhart = ball butcher

That is a myth. I doubt you have even seen him play more than once or twice.

Was it David Rhys Jones who said he could be the best kick in the AFL?

Not a title a ball butcher would be given.

Has elite footskills that are so elite his brain hasn't fully adapted to yet, hence the occasional spray.

I had him in my supercoach team in his first year and have watched him ever since. Reminds me of a Travis Johnstone style of kick, tries to bite off more than he can chew on too many occasions. Sure it looks great when it comes off but his turnovers like Johnstone's kill a team.

Exhibit 1) Game vs Hawthorn this year in Tasmania. Did you see Urqhart kick in that day?:eek:

In terms of value, it's definitely a fair trade, if anything favouring Sydney (I'm a big fan of both Urquhart and Vespa) but I wouldn't do it. We'd be trading a type we need for a type we don't.

Urquhart reminds me a hell of a lot of Martin Mattner. Tough, fast, tall-ish, good defensively and capable of some of the most damaging kicks you'll ever see, but tends to make shoddy decisions and shanks the ball a little too often. He also wouldn't be guaranteed games at Sydney, ahead of the likes of Malceski, Kennelly, Shaw, Mattner, Smith, Jetta, Rohan, Meredith (who the club rates very, very, VERY highly), Heath, and possibly even Sumner (who the club also rates very highly, as do I), all of whom may be competing for one or both of the rebounding HBF or wing roles. Trading in a player who is not going to be best 22 from the outset would be breaking the cardinal rule of Swans trading.

Pass, but not because I don't rate him. If the trade does eventuate, I'll take it, but it just seems like an odd trade from the Swans' perspective.

He did, in the VFL preliminary final he said he thought he was close to the best kick in the AFL, let alone the VFL.

Gavs skillset isn't in question, has a few issues above the shoulders.

IMO Gav has played his best footy as a wingman. Kicks goals in the VFL.

I agree his ball use can be iffy but I'd put much of that down to him trying to do 'too much'.

Certainly Laidley had him under instruction to try and use his long kicking to go over zones.

Even if the deal doesn't happen - I'll be happy to have him still at North.
Mate you are not being very convincing to Swans fans with your sell on him.First he has long and accurate kicking now his ball use is iffy.Is his iffy ball use from poor decision making or just poor skill execution ?

I'm not trying to convince anyone.

I'm just reporting what I'm hearing.

Yeah, his kicking has not been good this year, but I think it is more a confidence issue or trying to do too much issue because he is fighting for a spot in the side that has been overtaken by guys like Rawlings, Firrito and Pratt.

But, generally, he has been a very good long penetrating kick who knows how to hit targets, knows how to put a ball out in front to the advantage of a team mate.

There are a lot of things that go on upstairs that stop a player being able to do what they have the talent to do in their sleep.

I think Doggies are too keen on Vesz for us to get a trade done.

Hasn't he met with the Bulldogs already? Mentioned on the rumour thread that the meeting went well.

Yes...meeting went well...i'm still tipping him to land here. However, I'm growing increasingly doubtful considering Dogs seem keen on a lot of players...and they may use their picks elsewhere to secure other players.
