I'm thinking about going but can't find out when the fighters are on. All it says is there'll be UFC stars on both Saturday and Sunday but they don't list times. I don't wanna buy a ticket for Saturday and then find out that Forrest isn't there until Sunday or rock up at 11am and have to wait around for 3 hours.

From the FitX facebook page:

For those of you who don't know The Ultimate Fighter starts this week on GO -Ch99 (yes, not 1HD). This Thursday at 11.30pm and it's the latest season Brock v JDS

Cheers for that, I had no idea it was starting. No idea it was even close to starting in fact. They churn them out quick don't they?

Fitch pulled out today, it must be a pretty serious injury given the fight is still over three months away. No replacement has been named yet but BJ vs Condit would be pretty awesome. The Cruz vs Faber rematch is headlining the event.

Hopefully it's not a serious injury and that it's more a case of Fitch not wanting to fight off a short camp.

Condit was the first name I thought of too for a replacement. Would make for a great fight. :thumbsu:

Hilarious interview with Nick Diaz - http://www.mmafighting.com/2011/04/07/nick-diaz-im-the-most-overworked-overtrained-underpaid-figh/

My picks for the Strikeforce card this weekend - Diaz by sub, Melendez by decision, Mousasi by brutal KO, Aoki by sub

Great interview. How the hell did he get from talking about Paul Daley to the yellow cards in Pride? And was he suggesting that he should be paid as much as Pacqiuao?

Agree with the picks above although a Jardine upset wouldn't surprise me.

Ugh, a stupid rule and point deduction combined with the judges' obsession with takedowns costs Mousasi the win in a fight he dominated. Jardine had the right strategy because he was always going to get killed standing but he wasn't able to do anything when he got Mousasi down, he wasn't even able to keep him down for any length of time.

Beerbohm is an idiot for taking Aoki down. Got what he deserved. I was going to tip him earlier in the week but then I read him saying he wanted to grapple with Aoki and knew he was doomed.

DREAM featherweight champ Takaya lost to a nobody on the prelims.

Edit: Wow, Kawajiri got absolutely smoked by Melendez.

Ross you said it Mousasi/Jardine. I wont go on, but lets just add the fight to the top of the continuing list of fights further illustrating how completely inadequate, unbalanced and completely lacking common sense this system is for judging MMA fights. Mousasi completely dominated Jardine except for giving up a few takedowns (that resulted in zero damage or control), but regardless Jardine is a warrior that's for sure.

If you need any more evidence by now you are blind.

Oh and here is fightmetric out of interest: http://blog.fightmetric.com/2011/04/mousasi-vs-jardine-official-fightmetric.html

Regardless, Aoki dispacted Beerbohm easily. TERRIBLE gameplan. You don't even CLINCH with Aoki.

Melendez monstered. Melendez is probably my #1 lw at the moment, just hasn't proven it yet. Just like Cain was, he just needs time to solidify it. Felt bad for Crusher, but he'll be back. Always going to be a brutal ask for a stateside debut.

Diaz Daley was round/fight of the year, unbelievable action.

Aside from shocking judging, a great event.

Diaz vs Daley was great to watch. Diego Sanchez tweeted Dana White that he wants to coach TUF against Nick Diaz because it'd be "loco!"

It's only a matter of time before Melendez enters the UFC. His comments about the division being stacked are true so there are heaps of guys for him to fight.

LOL at Beebohm although I liked his pants better than Aoki's.

Jardine sure is a warrior for hanging in there but Mousasi should've found a way to finish him. I see the incompetent judges being the problem with the result and not the unified rules. Once again we've got a boxing judge (Abe Belardo) and some whack job named Lester Griffin who scored this a draw. Using my internet detective skills, I've discovered just who this Lester Griffin is. Prepare to have your mind blown.

Lester Griffin aka Gerald Lester Griffen Jr. aka Surf Dog
Griffin Martial Arts
http://www.griffinmartialarts.com/

Mr. Griffin is a 3rd degree American Ju-Jitsu Black Belt. He also teaches Wing Chun kung fu, Jun Fan JKD, Tai Chi, Kali FMA, Muay Thai, and Savate Kickboxing.

In Lester Griffin’s new web site he claims to be teaching 3 classes of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu a week (note, Brazilian is misspelled on this page)

However, Lester Griffin holds no rank in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. This is his Only BJJ Credential.

Lester Griffin flaunts this quote on his site:

In his philosophy Lester writes:

The claim of Machado Affiliate is suspiciously worded, and Lester holds no rank from any member of Machado BJJ. Lester holds no Judo or Sambo rank either.

According my source, Lester never rolls with his students, he only does compliant demonstrations. The ground fighting techniques taught are quite rudimentiary: they lack important technical details that you would expect from real BJJ. In other words: crappling.

It takes more than "Drawing from" BJJ in order to become qualified to teach it. You actually have to train the art and achieve at the VERY LEAST a blue belt.

Ricardo Almeida recently retired from competition and has become an mma judge in New Jersey which is fantastic news. Hopefully he paves the way for former fighters (whether UFC or small shows) to become judges. It'd be great if he can have an influence on the system and perhaps run seminars for all judges which I think would be ideal in the future.

Did you read to the end of that thread Vendrell? The quote you put up makes him come across a lot worse than what was concluded by the end of the thread. Are you a journalist by any chance :D:p

Seems to me like he's perfectly capable of judging MMA fights...

Yes I read to the end where it says the mods updated the original post to make it correct which is what I quoted :D:p

That's exactly what we need. All the retired fighters are going into coaching, the media or away from the sport completely. Hopefully Almeida will pave the way for future retirees to become judges and fix the UFC judging. Or you know, just get judges who aren't obsessed with takedowns.

You didn't post this bit..

Admin note:

This situation has been resolved. Lester Griffin is legit and this thread was the result of a misunderstanding/lack of public information. We are leaving this up for future referrence as an example of how things need to proceed better in the future regarding informal investigations.

Was disappointed, but not surprised to see the majority draw in the Mousasi/Jardine fight. I had a bad feeling that the takedowns in round 1 would win Jardine the round and that along with the point deduction would lead to the draw. I think it's a combination of horrible judging (Jardine landed 2 punches on the ground from 6 takedowns!!!) and the unified rules, but something definitely needs to change.

Melendez, Aoki and Diaz all looked superb in their fights. Gilbert with elbows is a scary proposition for any lightweight in the world and Diaz just outstruck the guy many though to be the most dangerous striker at 170. I still think he'll get dominated when he meets top level wrestlers, but anyone who stands with him is in for a long night.
