The 'Go Home 5' Post-Mortem

Polec is a decent player in a decent side. If Port struggles, Polecs performance drops dramatically, based on the fact his a bit if a downward skier and doesn't impact the game himself.

Polec is an average player, nothing more.
By no means am I in the Polec corner here, the little turd sh**s me. However, he is better than an average player imo.
Remember Polec is really only in his first season of regular senior football. It's above the shoulders for him in terms of playing well when winning and vice versa when losing. In time, I predict that will improve
In terms of judging him and Darcy, it's tough as they are completely different types. Types we need both of. But I'd much rather a player that wants to play for us.

Ma

Martins challenge is he needs to do this performance over a number of years, not just in 8 games. He also performed like this with Melbourne, then went missing for 2 years. Injuries were a small.part of this, but not for the whole two years.

Based on this, I would still be seeing Leuey as our key Ruckman until Martin can prove himself over a full year.

Also that he was played out of his best performing position due to first Jamar at the Demons and then Leuenberger when he came to us.

It should be abundantly clear that he excels at first ruck hence his recent form and that at Melbourne when Jamar was down.

I love that despite Collingwood having 19 players on their injury list, Karnesis still couldn't crack a game this season :). Better luck next year.

And on the cusp of senior selection since May...Only one of the 'GH5' not to get a senior gig.

Recently spoke with someone at the club re the gh5. He said apart from Yeo they didn't want to put in the hard work and they were the only players that had a problem with Vossy

Just realised these 5 freed up a bit of salary cap which is allowing us to have all this fun ATM.

Brown's, Ash's and Moloney's retirements mainly. Three out of the five kids would have only been on rookie deals and replaced with rookies, so no real gain. The other two might have saved a bit of money but not much given they were only single year extensions signed while on their rookie deal.

Wouldn't have been massive coin, but there would have been cap space set aside for projected pay rises for 'em.

pretty sure i read an article where polec actively said vossy was great for him and they are still in touch, he thought he was a great coach

Yeah, I remember that too.

Polec had a dreadful run with injury in his time with us and apart from that, "came clean" and more or less, confessed to not getting the best out of himself at the Lions.

He's the one I feel least aggro toward out of the GH5.

Longer, Docherty and to a lesser extent Karnezis are the ones that get up my nose the most, with the overt and smug sense of self-righteousness they displayed when they buggered off on us.

You can forgive Docherty due to the passing of his Father earlier this year. I believe Karnezis would have been traded regardless of his intention to stay or go. To sit here and say that Paine played 6 games and Karnezis played 0 validates his exit.

The way I have always looked at it, all five players wanting to leave at the same time was coincidental rather than circumstantial. Even if they had all stayed, I believe we would have finished in the same position this year or marginally better. Leppa's new game plan was always going to take time regardless of the stability of the playing list, hence why our Senior players struggled a lot in the first half of the season.

All the players have come out and said they all had different reasons and the timing was just poor for the Lions.

Polec was a shame but he clearly didn't have the right attitude at the club and even he recognized that, and maybe felt bad as well.

Yeo was mostly lost to coin and the added go home factor.

Docherty obviously because of his father.

Karnezis missed mummy.

Longer, I'm not 100% sure so if someone could fill me in but I always assumed he felt self-entitled and thought he was worth starting every week.

its one of those times of the year where every tom dick or harry seems to know someone who is going to give them a major inside scoop that they arent scared this person will spread, sheesh

Polec has a very slight build, hadn't realised just how slight till I watched him last night.
Someone on here said he was the icing on the cake at Power.
Pretty good analogy actually.
He will not be the game breaker like Wingard or Wines.but will be handy.
Have no ill feelings towards him now.
If he wasn't happy here.no good staying.

The goal late in the game last night was pretty damn good too

Had a touch of the chipscab about it though. Was nowhere to be seen when that game was on the line.

Polec is good, but I don't feel he is a big game player like many have already mentioned. I'm pretty happy we got Dizzy and Robbo, both crazy hard players. Unlike Dizzy and Robbo are competitive beasts who would thrive in the environment of a big game. Both players would go 210% to ensure Brisbane win. I think I know which type of players I would want in a Grand Final.

Hint: It's not the bloke who plays bruise free footy.

PS: I'm also looking at you too Karnezis
