This country is such a shambles (just have power on now finally after 5 hours without). Overpopulated (for how arid it is), poor infrastructure, 'drought' that's lasted umpteen years, heavy water restrictions, power crisis with new record-breaking high temperatures, shite public transport.

It's only going to get worse

Are you ****ing serious?

Go to India *******.

I agree with Magpie.

As a 17 year old, my generation and future generations will be left to deal with the crap state that the world is in due to actions (or lack of said actions) by earlier generations. :)

yep the old blokes are right. you need a war with conscription every so often to fix up the insaneness of the younger generation. You have NFI and whilst i haven't been there either, i've seen enough to know how lucky we are, the horrors many men went through when they were just boys is indescribable :(

It seemed to me that the majority of the blackouts were in newish areas where most of the homes would have large power drawing central A/C units. Dare I say Nemco would have targetted to shut those areas down to stop the drain on the power supply.

Went through the whole heatwave without so much as a power flick, had the air con on for at least half the time, its nice here now, but friday night was the killer.

While I respect and am thankful for what the men and boys have done before me to allow this country its freedom, I don't think it's a fair comparison when you look at how the world has changed.

It's currently only around 30 degrees in Adelaide and is overcast, so hopefully we won't reach 40.

There was a lovely breeze last night so we opened the windows but ended up with dust everywhere. Did cool down the house a little though.

Good to hear. Hopefully you guys get some cooler weather sooner rather than later. :thumbsu:

Same here, pretty thankful really. Had the air con on heaps and didn't really think about the drain they do have on the power supply.

No blackouts here, would not have had the cooling on (it's only evaporative... not as effective as a proper aircon) that much if it wasn't for my sister bitching about how hot it was. It's funny, i was fine Wednesday and Thursday (bar burning my feet on the concrete lol) - Friday was the worst day for me.

Yesterday it was awesome 20 - 29 degrees throughout, but again my sister insisted on having the cooling on most of the day  when it didn't need to be.

stories in the past always are over exagerated, thats just human nature.

but it was funny this week about old people go on about the harsh heat they had to play through (cricket) in there days before heat policies were brought in.

obviously they dont know this is one of the worst heatwaves in a century.

had to go to school on thursday :thumbsdown:
came home
30 minute swim :thumbsu::thumbsu:
work for 5 hours at red rooster...busiest day in more then a year in 4.5.5C
didnt have time to get a drink in a few hours...needlest to say i downed a number of (free) drinks after that

We've gone past 40 again today. That's 6 consecutive days now.

Right so you want to send guys (18 - 22 yrs old) off to fight war just to "fix up the insaneness of the younger generation". What is another massacre going to achieve mate?

It'll stop them whinging. Makes me much happier.

whats this bull$hit l hear about the heatwave cost more than 100M...??
Health costs; lost productivity through offices, restaurants, etc being closed; additional firefighting above and beyond arsonists in more normal conditions; lost transport of people and goods through trains not running; food and the like perishing without refrigeration; it all adds up.
How accurate the $100m figure is, who knows.

Still a week of mid-30s to go here in Canberra, and high-30s in Adelaide.

The word is insanity, perhaps we should conscript everyone to the army where at least they might get an education.

I can't cop people like this. I really can't.

Have you ever been to war? By your own admission, no you haven't. Your relatives may have been to war but i dont know if that qualifies as "seeing enough".

Yet you encourage conscription to "sort out the younger generation". I spose that sorting out requires a few bullets through a gut fired from a machine gun nest does it? It seems fashionable to bash the younger generation today, the ironic thing is that the young men and women who fought in armed conflict and died, the last thing they would want is for another war that results in another mass massacre.

Why don't you pull your head in mate.

We are lucky yes, but it still doesn't mean that we are not screwing stuff up for future generations with the way we are acting today. In principle that young poster had a point, in future years Australia will be left with a burden from the current generation with regards to the environment
, especially The Great Barrier Reef.

Perth hasn't been quite as hot as Melbourne and Adelaide but the unusual high humidity has been uncomfortable (what happened to the dry heat that we brag about so often), have been drenching in sweat like a fat lady going outside doing work yesterday and exercising over the last few days.
