you guys are mean

as for coaches, I thought Port were meeting eade and ratten in adelaide, but have been told its in Melbourne (rooch was right!) but Ratten has expressed a desire to visit alberton also which shows his keeness.

I dont have all the info, but as short of a race as this seems from the outside (eade v ratten) apparently it is much wider on the inside. A number of people are being spoken to, and whilst it still may come down to eade v ratten, they are definately doing its homework on a wide variety of applicants.

im convinced they must be interviewing for another assistant also by some of the names im hearing. People who are clearly not ready to be a head coach etc.

Do you have any word on the length of the process? Are we still aiming for an announcement GF week? Given last week, I'm happy for the club to push back any announcement.

I guess if its Eade and Collingwood win next week we wouldn't be hearing about it till the week after regardless?

If we look at some successful stables....here are some names to consider....Blakey, Dew, Tudor, Bolton, Cameron, Beveridge, Eade, M Lappin, Harvey, Hart, Bickley, Camperole, Milburn, Amos, Caracella, N Lappin, Basset, Laird, Collins, Sumich, Teague, Burns, Longmuir, Fitzgerald, Carroll, Ayres, West, Stone, Clarkeson......now amongst this lot we should find a coach...some assistants....arent we after the best candidate for the coach...not the best candidate from past coaches.....in addition to this why not chase Roos for a football operations mentoring role...he was part of the successful swans culture building team....

I think the best we could get with Roo's is possibly a short term consultant role.

If we could get Eade, add Basset and Tudor, I would be happy, push Rehn back to Ruck and stoppage coach. Tudor to 2IC, Basset to defense, Hocking to development, Carr and Gotch to midfield and maybe another coach whose played forward as Forward coach.

i dont have any info on that but KT is a smooth operator and I would suggest like you say above that if there isnt an appointment before next week, then it would be because theres a high chance our coach is competing in the GF (be it eade, tudor, cameron, bailey or anyone like that)

i really have a feeling its gonna be ratten still.....

Ratten was on 3AW talking about the Port job. Apparently Craig Bradley convinced him to go for it as he still keeps a keen eye on the happenings at Alberton.

Sounds pretty interested

Could you please edit Bickley out of that post, Phoenix.
i tried to pick one random coach from all 4 remaining teams just in the interest of fairness. But we all know that he has a snowflakes chance in hell of getting it ;-)

That is a fear hidden in the deep recesses of our mind that nobody would openly speak of.... Might go down to Bunnings, maybe pick up a pitchfork...

i actually asked KT straight up whether Bickley would be considered.... his laugh and look suggested no without it being said.

its funny how much you can read into a look, but im sure I read this one right ;-)

He did the same thing at the members info night, then shook his head and said "no".

rucci is full of it....

What is the general thought here on guys like harvey, laidley, and simpson?

Laidley no he has been here and didn't want the gig when we got Choco to stand aside.

Harvey - not sure about. Would have him as an assistant but not sure about the main job.

Simpson - I hear very good things about him out of the Hawks. You look at the no nonsense way he played in the mid field filled with stars and you know he would make a decent coach. Not sure if that is as the main coach, but according to the Hawks he is more than a decent assistant.

I've noticed that Sanderson's been throwing Bickley in front of the TV camera's a lot more than usual just lately, trying to show he's supposedly got what it takes to be a head coach. He must really want to get rid of him.

May be trying to make room for Matty Scarlett ;)

Based on? AFAIK Ratten and Eade would be the remaining candidates yet to be interviewed.

Ratten is the only one with a visible media presence regarding the job. No idea if that will eventuate into anything, wasn't the media dead set on Chris Scott when Primus got the gig?

Eade can't really push in the media though can he

The general feeling is that you have to be a half back flanker or back pocket player to be a successful coach. Now there are the exceptions and you have star players who were able to win flags.

I put them into 2 categories rather than where they played to see who coaches premierships, grinders blokes who might not have been great players but ground out a solid career and stars.
