Or we could hire someone that doesn't have an intimate history with organisations dedicated to bringing down the PAFC.

This is a CEO position, there is absolutely no need to hire a football stooge, let alone an SANFL one, or a Norwood one.

With his connections to Whicker and the SMA, how would this be any different to the abortive coup of a few weeks ago? He'd be for Port Adelaide's best interest as much as KG Cunnihole.

Worse. He would be like Stephen ****ing Rowe, pretending he has our best interests at heart while stabbing us in the ****ing back.

ok I give up. Burn him he's a witch.

If it's any consolation before Haysman was appointed Rucci was trying to convince anyone who would listen that Cos Cardone would get the job. Wonder what Cos is doing now?

No, but seriously - the last thing the club can do is give even more reasons for fans to disconnect further from the club, and after the SANFL's attempted takeover, why on earth would the club want to give the impression that the coup was successful by hiring a guy like Thomas?

This falls into the same sort of category as drafting Brendan Fevola, IMO. Might do OK, but the baggage associated heavily mitigates any gain.

Last thing I can find is him being CEO of McGuire Media (yes, that McGuire).

Ford, I think the concern here is that Whicker initially wanted Lyons to come in and cut the costs of the leanest footy department in SA and when Vlad vetoed that idea the SANFL immediately began floating Thomas' name through proxies such as Rob Lucas.

The obvious, and might I add well founded, fear is that Thomas (who is connected to the SANFL, Whicker and the SMA) would come in with the same SANFL agenda Lyons would have had to destroy the Club and fill SANFL pockets in the process.

No thanks Keith. Too much baggage. Please go back to the Parade.

Yeah, while there's a good chance he'd do what Haysman did and just fall in love with the club and do his best for us, given the recent coup attempt and the upcoming SMA negotiations that will basically decide whether we are a viable entity into the future, i'd like someone neutral at worst.

Testify, brosefs.

We didn't beat back the barbarians at the gate only to welcome the Trojan horse with open arms.

I hope.

so, true ... Thomas might be ok but his connx with SANFL, Norwood, Whicker and esp the SMA makes him untouchable for us!

Surely, there is a sports administrator up for a challenge?

Do you think Hitaf Rasheed after a few years now as General Manager of Events SA could do the job?

She would have plenty of corporate contacts, managerial experience, is on good terms with the media here, knows the SANFL influence and has a strong Port Adelaide background.

Good suggestion put out there. The masses would be comfortable with her also.

She may have good contacts and relationships, and be well respected, but I would have thought someone with a strong strategy and financial background would be better suited given the position the club finds itself in right now.

I think she loves her Event SA work to much. Met her at the Tour Down Under Village while I was doing Security work this year. Very nice Lady and said she really loves this job. Would be ideal for the Port job however.

Hitaf has for the past three years been the General Manager of Events SA, the major events division of the SA Tourism Commission.

She has qualifications in Economics and Accounting from University of Adelaide and Business Management, Sport from Deakin University.

Her strategy and financial background through work and study is more than sound.

Not really, I think all the maths has already been done. The less the SANFL are willing to change, the easier it is. Our last two CEOs have been numbers guys - if there was a way to recalculate and `grow the pie' with numbers, I am very confident its been done.

Would be great to get Hitaf back, as our profile really began to suffer after she left, and I think the biggest challenge the next CEO will face is getting Port fans back in seats.

She'd be perfect. The woman demands respect. Would love to see her stare down Whicker and Co and put them alli in their place. Her political contacts would surely assist as well...

Not sure she'd be willing to give up the globetrottijng role she is on but lets hope Hitaf is seriously considering a tilt at the top job...

she might have the credentials on paper, however, just a little doubtful that she could successfully implement the strategic change necessary to take the club into the future, very few are visionary enough to succeed in this area and I think the club needs someone special right now. It is a tough gig to go from running a department to being in charge of the whole business across many diverse functions.

Happy to be convinced otherwise though, as I don't think she is the worst choice, and personally I would love to see a female at the helm, just need a bit more convincing

The future strategic directions of the club will be set by the board* and operationalised by the various divisions with the club. The CE is the champion of the change and will negotiate with the relevant high level figures to progress the club. Hitaf currently works at an international level negotiating major events for SA so can handle this role.

*The wildcard here is the AFL/SANFL has us in a $9M squirrel grip. The reality is that whoever is in charge will be dancing largely to their tune.

It appears the AFL pretty much stopped the SANFL takeover a couple of weeks back allowing Port Adelaide to continue to operate as Port Adelaide. So given the AFL has final say as it is the funder and given their support so far we should be continuing on - especially as they pushed the move to Adelaide Oval and supported the OnePort bid to get it over the line.

But it appears their view is Port Adelaide is not well run. The whole Mark Williams fiasco set alarm bells ringing at AFL House and now they are keeping a close eye on us.

Equally they are wary of SANFL motives so I expect they will have final say over who sits in the hot seat at Port. Duncanson might well be feeling uneasy too.

Whoever is CE at Port when it comes to negotiating the new stadium deal is irrelevant. Both clubs will again get the same deal and as there is only one show in town (Adelaide Oval, SMA) anti-competition is fully enabled.

Offer Hitaf a few snags and she will be right in.

Seriously though I would be happy with an AFL appointed CEO at least for the interim, with the AFL making sure that stadium deal is fair for all parties.

I agree, I would rather an AFL appointed ceo than sanfl.
