I gave Stanley a solid spray during the game and after rewatching he was better than I gave credit for - but he was still poor at times… really needs to lift next time out

Go Catters
All whipping boys are only as good as their next ordinary game unfortunately.

Still think that Stanley was due a stinker because

1) He's had a great year and hasn't stunk it up
2) He's played like no game time since June
3) He's always played better against good ruckmen and poorer against the poor ones. He will lift for Gawn (always does), Cameron and Cox were beneath him ;)

I made the comment some time ago that Rohan shouldn't play finals. Never saw him doing anything in a big game. Then the little bastard pops up and wins us the game in the most high-pressure final you could ever imagine.

Egg well and truly on my face on that one. Wowee.
Here's hoping he can replicate that in the PF (and the GF!)

He was pushed under the ball way more than he should have been which was really disappointing. I’m prepared to give him another chance

After an exhilarating PF win, the silence in this thread from the Kolo-critics and the Danger-deniers is deafening.

Still, for myself, I have to own up to being hugely down on Gryan's output earlier in the season. Was massively into him for not being hard enough and for making an extremely marginal contribution to the success of the team.

After all that, his game in the PF was probably the best I have ever seen him play. Ran so hard, linked up play expertly on several occasions, and hit the scoreboard himself. Didn't shirk any contests (despite the fact it wasn't the 'hardest' game in the world) and showed exactly why the M.C. kept faith with him through some pretty indifferent form earlier in the season.

So massive kudos to our #32. And plenty of chastening for me after writing off a player who has grown right through to the last weeks of this season.

I. Was. Wrong.

Posting this in here, but lets look at some of those maligned players. Zuthrie, Atkins, Kolo, Stanley, Miers, Blicavs...
This is where our improvement has come from, just as much, if not more, than inclusions like Cameron and Stengle.
Those maligned players have now become absolute locks and game changing players who are vital to our structure and system.
Credit to them.

Dangerfield has been in our top 3 performers in most finals over his Geelong career. Even in our worst games like the 2016, 2017 or 2021 prelims or the 2019 QF, he's given us as much as anyone (along with Selwood). His couple of shockers in our most heart breaking losses (the 2019 and 2020 Tigers games) seem to dominate people's perceptions. So yeah that is a rubbish opinion but I doubt people will fess up unless he wins the Norm Smith next week.

AFL app posted a stat last night that pointed out Danger has now accumulated more than 25 possessions 11 times in finals.

Still, if only he could ever perform at a decent level in September...

And 4 of his finals were Covid-shortened where almost nobody got those numbers. Was great in the SF and PF that year anyway. His forward game against Swans in 2017 wasn't bad either...or the previous year where it was he and Selwood (75 odd touches between them) Vs 22 Swans. Probably leads contested possession and/or clearance numbers almost every final he plays. Still, yes, would be nice if he turned up for once.

I didn't think Danger could still play a game like that. Miers was good but I'm not prepared to say I was wrong about him yet, I feel burnt by him in high pressure games and just don't quite trust him yet. Kolo I'm not as negative as some, I don't think he is a great player but I don't think he shits the bed as much as some on here think he does.

Zac Guthrie.

I have never posted anything derogatory about Zac, but he was much maligned in my mind. I would wonder how he would get another contract, let alone being selected in the team? I reasoned it was just to keep Cam and Mark sweet. At one stage I thought to find out what his winning percentage was compared to the Geelong average - because it seemed we were more likely to lose when he was named in the team.

When he was first drafted, I recall some outstanding performances in pre-season games, but then nothing seemed to eventuate as the seasons progressed.

Fast forward to the second half of this year, I began to be impressed how he stood up during Tom Stewart's absence, and even felt a bit sorry for him because I thought he'd be dropped when Tom returned.

Well now he's about to play in a Grand Final, an integral member of our back six, and in our best 22 while there a quality players (walk-up starts in most other teams) who will most likely be watching from the stands.

Can we add Miers and Zac Guthrie with Tom Atkins?
Miers was extraordinary last night

It's rare for me to lambast players, but I was very critical of Kolo...I thought he was a liability.

Serves me right for being critical of a player in writing!

Good job Kolo...same again please.

I'd suggest all but the staunchest of JK supporters would have expressed their frustration & shared criticism of him across his time in the hoops

I think majority agree or are at least willing to acknowledge he's a solid defender, but not sure too many thought he'd look as composed or potent with ball in hand as he did last night

Hoping he takes a lot of confidence out of last night, and the knowledge that he can play at the level he did - as you said, same again please

Either covid or the hair/beard combo.
Was a good to very good coach prior, been OUTSTANDING since.
Nah he lost me in 2013 after the prelim.
Won me over a bit after losing the 2020 gf because I didn’t think we’d be there

I made this post at 3/4 time against the Pies in the round 3 gameday thread, staring down the barrel of a 1-2 start with by far the oldest list in the league

"thinking out loud here, but I wonder what the MC will do if we lose a few, say we're 4-7 by mid way through the season.. Do we just sit the old blokes that have contracts that expire at the end of '22 and run with the kids? I'd bloody hope so"

Some interesting takes on Dangerfields finals - if you look at stats then sure he has been good.

I'm of the belief he has been ordinary in finals playing his worse game for the club in a grand final. On top of that he has been an absolute clanger king when the pressure increases.

To his credit Dangerfield has played a much more team orientated game this year. Nearly like our version of Cotchin - a player who changed the way he played to the benefit of his team
