There definitely has not been a show in a long tine that has been as consistent as this show.

I knew what was going to happen and the episode was grippingly intense.

David calling out Elllllieeeee when the lodge was on fire was terrifyingly creepy. It was just at the right tone and phrased to really show how much of a sicko he was.

What a fantastic episode. All of it was outstanding. Utterly outstanding.

As a non gamer i did NOT see that coming. i thought he was simply a leader of another community. even in hindsight all the hints, i did not think anything. until the cell. I guess that's what makes it so good.

You didn't think him smacking a kid was a bit of a red flag?

They really wanted David to be the cannibal preacher, who just saw his 'friend' get hit with a cleaver to the jugular, get caught in a burning room but still wanted to rape a teenage girl, all in one episode. Episode was good, but that's a bit too ott and David too much of a cookie-cutter villain for this episode to get such praise.
James wasn't his friend, none of them were. He viewed all his people as sheep, broken, huddling around him. Thats why he was so interested in Ellie, even at 14 she is none of those things.

David was a proper violent nutcase narcissist who morphed into a patriarchal theocrat post-outbreak, was just hiding it for most of the episode. I could buy that his priorities were kinda out of whack after Ellie challenged him to the degree she did.

It wasnt an immediate reaction. Probably as he was preaching, then slapped the innocent, grieving young girl, i thought yeah hes a preacher/religious nutter. slapping probably engrained in him.

Sorry, I did Google it to be sure, but it gave me the wrong information. One of those times the internet let me down. On further investigation, it was Scott Shepherd. Apologies.

Pretty cool that some of the original voices are in the show. Jeffrey Pierce, who was Perry in Episode 4 and 5, is the original voice actor for Tommy in the games. Merle Dandridge is Marlene in both.

It will be pretty interesting if one of the most well known voice actors, Nolan North, appears at some point. He voiced David.

So bloody good.

Echoing the same thoughts about having played the game and still edge of the seat stuff.

Couldn't have cast any than they did.

We're they feeding that little girl her dad?

Can't wait for next week
oooh...eating her dad with some fava beans...

...thankyou fava for the food I'm about to receive

btw, not surprise the guy's a complete nut...he's a pedo and a cannibal = pecan = NUT

EDIT: alright alright, technically he's not a nut...he's a drupe (I study horticulture...so I looked it up)

Hannah: You should kill him. You should kill both of them.
David the pedo: I know you think you don't have a father anymore. But the truth is, Hannah, you will always have a father. And you will show him respect when he's speaking.

Im no psychologist, criminologist etc. But in hindsight that screams pedo talk.

It's funny for me I keep drawing comparisons to TWD, where in that world, a character like David (Negan) would be drawn out over seasons.. but no, TLOU: one episode

I much prefer the condensed format of this show over TWD. It does mean they have to take shortcuts with the plot at times. Like they gave Ellie a human ear in her food - oops! So then she knows they are cannibals whereas the villagers don't. David goes from preacher leading his flock, doing what it takes to help them survive - to slapping girls around for little reason. So then we know he's evil, right? David barely knows Ellie but instantly wants her to run the settlement with him. But put it all together and it makes for a great episode.

They didn't give her an ear in her food.

Most of that is such a massive misrepresentation of what was on screen.

The only part that's true is David instantly thinks ellie can run the settlement with him. But even that part I'm not sure on. I think he more saw her as a child bride that would put up a fight.

The ear was under the butchers table and the flock were pretty uncomfortable in the opening sermon. First viewing easy to think it was because someone had died, but maybe it was more than that with what we now know.
