Anyone in the Collingwood team in 49 of the last 50 years. You are rated on how you perform in finals. Every year there is huge hype about the squibs in black & white. They constantly fail in September. No wonder when they persist in overated duds in the Cloke's, Shaw's and Rocca's for example.

Currently Max Hudghton - great at doin' his nana, getting injured and balling after a loss. Can't believe he still gets a game.

All time - Bruce Doull. Seemed to go from underrated to most overrated overnight.

Dale Thomas - Nothing against him or Collingwood, I think he is a good player atm but everyones lovefest about him has turned me against him. He will be a very good player though.

And Up the Junction, don't agree with you on Maxy. A fantastic defender and you've got to love his emotion for the game. If anything he doesn't get his due credit for his work. A shame he is always injured.

Nick Riewoldt - massively overated. Does a lot of his work up the ground, so doesn't hurt you enough with goals. Very rarely takes a pack mark inside 50mtrs. Relies on his hard leads, which often takes him too far from goal. Also he's a very poor kick for goal. Not saying he isn't a good player, but well overated.

Kosi - does not do enough with the talent he has. Being injury prone doesn't help.

St.Kilda - a lot of star players, but mainly perform middle of the road as a team. Thank the coach for that one.

Nathan Brown (Richmond) - a lot of hype about this guy, but really only playing a support role now days after his bad injury.

A. Rocca - does not do enough.

Josh Fraser - was supposed to be the next big thing when he got drafted. Has never lived up to the expectations. I suppose being injury prone doesn't help.

Nick Maxwell - why does this guy get any hype at all? How could he have been a chance for the captaincy?? And how could they give him no. "5"...wtf????

Des Headland - only ever played 11 good games.

Jeff Farmer - dangerous, but feral.

Chris Tarrent - a waste of talent, a real disappointment.

Daniel Wells - just does not do enough, looks lazy. When is the penny going to drop for this guy???

Nick Davis - has been very ordinary for a very long time now.

West Coast team - what a pack of soft c*&ks they've turned into. Is it time they had another team meeting with lots of group hugs. Just what you would expect of any club run by softie Mark Barnaba.

Jobe Watson - I can't understand why all the hype about this guy.

Marc Murphy - not really performing that well is he?

The Clarks of St.kilda - the less said the better.

Daniel Wells. He is as soft as a flacid apendage.

Obviously dont watch too many of our games, he used to be soft.. now puts his body on the line a fair bit considering his size. The thing you'd hold against him would be laziness.. Sometimes he looks like he has absolutely no intrest in playing whatsoever

If he was so overrated he probably would've made the Dream Team, but he didnt. Not many people rate him anymore

thats what happens when you get abused by the AFL for nearly a year, and then have a loss of draft picks, fines dangling over your head for any misdemeanour's.

would have to rate nathan brown the most overated rarely have i seen someone take 2 years off to recovery from leg surgery all the while his teamates are battling at the bottom
how can anyone with such softness play a role in the leadership group, this example tends to explain richmond frequent drop down the ladder and wooden spoons
interesting also nathan brown is the only player in history to win consequetive wooden spoons at the different club i guess he rubbs off on people

I think the Clarkes from St Kilda are the reason why St Kilda havent achieved anything. If they werent picked and the Saints drafted just solid players Im sure they would of played in a GF by now.
And for all the Dale Thomas baggers, give him a few more years. The kid is a baby and is having a tough patch at present but he will be a champion.

For mine Waite is over rated. For all the hype surrounding him he should be dominant in at least one position. Long way from being a hack but needs to show more.

It's not the player's fault that he becomes over-rated - he doesn't "rate" himself. That's why I felt sorry for Gary Ablett Jnr when Rohan Connolly went with the "Is Gary Jnr as good as his Dad" story. The story could have been written in one word - No. Gary Snr would be just about universally regarded as one of the best 10 players (And I'm being conservative) of all time. Is Gary Jnr that good? No. End of story. So for that one piece Gary Ablett Jnr was over-rated.

Likewise when Leigh Montagna was in Sheahan's Top 50 at the start of the year. Anyone who read that and said, "sure" overrates a good ordinary player - at best.

As for generally speaking most of the main ones have been covered - Thomas hasn't done enough yet to get the plaudits he gets. If someone can explain to me why Jarrad Waite is playing tonight and why he gets the praise he gets, it would be appreciated and Koschitzke has been in the system for ages and, even taking into account his injuries, hasn't done a lot. He's polled Brownlow votes in only 6 of his 104 games - he got 2, 3, 3, 3 in consecutive weeks in 2005 and none in the 38 games since - Not that Brownlows are the best guide for a key forward who is meant to be a match winner, that's below par.

As for my own side, yeah, Daniel Wells has run out of time to warrant his No.2 draft selection. Over 100 games and the amount that he has lived up to his promise can be counted on one hand. Is a very good player but will never be a gun. The rest can't be over-rated because most of them aren't rated at all. But it bemuses me that many "experts" still talk about Leigh Brown as if he is an important member of our side. He's not. He should count every game he gets from now on as a bonus.

agree 100% wells he about as overated as sam newman is being funny done little and for a number 2 pick probably rate him worse than thomas

Can't argue. It's time people stopped talking about how good he's going to be. What you see is what you're going to get with Wells. A good player, who can really turn it on, but can equally go missing too easily. A player with his ability should be playing tonight, but it's his fault he isn't.

M Jamieson: The amount of hype this guy recieves is ridiculous

M Luenberger: IMO he will be a top ruckman and has plenty of potential, but so many people are talking like he's a dead cert to be as good or better than Cox. There IS a chance he will stagnate like Josh Fraser.

N Maxwell: Does the number 5 no justice at all. Give it a year or two he'll be on the fringe of the side.

D Wells: Waited for him to live up to what people say he is, sick of waiting, he's an average player who'll put in an outstanding game here and there.

N Riewoldt: Fine plyer, but I just don't think his output matches his hype.

Chris Tarrant would be the most overrated player of all time. This guy never really hurt teams but the Pies fans built him up to be bigger than Ben Hur!

Other notible mentions are Des Hedland, Daniel Wells, Justin Koszitski and Josh Frazer. All have potential but hardly show it or ever control a game the way superstars/high draft pics should.
