My opinion matters not, but I personally prefer Phoenix to Hawks.

It opens up a wide opportunity to post YooToob links to Phoenix-related songs. Many more of those out there than Hawks songs.

I can burn up a whole match thread on By The Time I Get To Phoenix alone.

EPISODE 4, PART 2: Hawks >>> Phoenix Rebrand

Hate - Anti-Phoenix Campaigner

TheLimburgerFiles.png

Cheese: Hi Hate

I want to discuss the controversial Hawks >>> Phoenix Rebrand

When did you first hear about the proposed change of Club identity?

Hate: Hello damicky,

That is a great question you put to me. I know you are probably sitting there saying "wow, Hate was indeed an East Side Hawks player, he and others must have certainly known about such drastic changes."

I first heard about the changing of the name of such a well-respected and historically significant club (at the time), of nearing 16 years, at the same time that the great majority of not just the Sweet Football Association community did, but the East Side Hawks playing list as well.

That is, of course, after it was already done and decided.

Cheese: Were you at a different Club the Season before the change?

Is that why you weren't consulted about it??

Hate: Indeed I was, however there are a few flaws if that is the proposal being put to me:

a) the change came as an immense shock to not just myself, as an East Side Hawks player, but the large majority of the list - many who were long term servants of the club, legends of the club.

b) the leadership group did not seem to have an issue with others being at different clubs, considering their consultation with the Las Vegas Bears Captain on the matter

But of course, this is a question more suited to those that did not consult the large portion of players - some who have since jumped ship, which is telling.

Cheese: As you are a Sweet FA Historian, I am surprised that you werenā€™t told what was happening

Who else had a major issue with how the process was carried out?

Hate: Just for clarity; this is not about me not getting told. I have no issue on that front. I was a new player at the club.

I can not speak for anyone else, but what I would say is that the litany of players, including their own former Captain, to leave the club in the following seasons probably speaks volumes even if they seek not to make public comment.

Cheese: For us newer players, who are a few of the higher profile players that departed because of this?

Hate: It is not for me to attach my own reasons to any name directly. Their reasoning is something that can only come from them. I was merely pointing out that many players have, following the rebranding, left the club. It is only my view that for many, it would have played a role in their decisions to abandon the club.

Cheese: Fair enough

Did you move to the Demons solely because of the name change?

Hate: Absolutely. I will give credit to the East Side Phoenix, who from memory, were understanding and accommodating given it was rather close to the deadline.

And that Headless is just the greatest member of the Sweet Football Association.

Cheese: Why did you have such a problem?

1. Changing from an established name/ mascot with a long history
2. The choice of name/ mascot
3. Lack of consultation with the playing group
4. All of the above

Hate: 4. All of the above and 5. the reasoning did not stack up to any serious scrutiny, at all.

Cheese: Was the only justification that there is an AFL Club known as the Hawks?

Hate: That was the justification I was given, yes. Those at the head of the table were kind enough to converse with me after the fact, but ultimately, that is what it boiled down to - an incoherent, flimsy, complete myth and made-up justification.

Cheese: Did you tell Chipmunk & Co that they had made a mistake? (my guess is yes)

If so, how did they take it??

Hate: Any issue I have had in the Sweet Football Association that has arisen to the point of a conversation in private has been rather respectful and cordial (in my view). It was no different on this occasion. I gave them a respectful serve about the sheer stupidity of the decision and its reasoning. They were receptive but ultimately steadfast in their conviction to stick to what I view as a horrible decision.

Cheese: When I joined the Sweet FA in S32, East Side was considered a struggling Club

Were you impressed by their recruiting over the off-season?

Hate: I'm not impressed by your performance and I look forward to fight you in the near future.

Cheese: Was there anything else that you wanted to share?

Hate: I have nothing more to add other than Tarkyn_24 is the greatest East Side Phoenix player ever and one day the East Side Hawks will return to the competition.

Cheese: Thanks for sharing your thoughts & memories

Go the mighty Hawks!

Hate: Thank you for the opportunity and best of luck with your media piece.

Great job, Hate.

A very reasonable, confident, calm, and most importantly, accurate assessment of what can only be referred to as the sorry East Side saga.

Oh - snap!

damicky - I'm enjoying this thread. I like hearing about big moments in the league's history, some of which I don't know much about at all.

Nice job.

With this Phoenix thing, I also thought Chipmunk did a great job with the responses. It's all been a good read.

Cheese: This is your last season as Captain of the Phoenix

Are you concerned that you will only be remembered as the rodent who killed off the Hawks?
