The long sleeve jumper is it dead

I would say about 8-9 years ago there would be a consistant 2-4 players in each team wearing one

I know Bartel wore one this year but mostly for injury and Melchiski wears one but there isnt really in more players that wear the long sleeve jumper

I dont think i have seen a Collingwood player wear one since Rhyce Shaw started

Will the jumper come back into fashion or will it get to the point where no one will be wearing it again

I think the disapearance of the long sleeve has alot to do with the coaches, medical staff and match day performance team. Footballers do more running then ever before and hence seldom get the opportunity to risk cooling down. gone are the days of freezing your arse off in a forward pocket as you watch your team get thumped. Everything regarding a players welfare during a match is so well managed i think the need to long sleeves is well and truly gone. Some players who are elite i beleive can still wear what they want but the rest would have to conform to doing what they are told.

I personally thought the players who wore long sleeves were mad. I remember watching Andrew Jarman who wore not only long sleeves but they were the days with woolen jumpers and collars. shit that would have been hot to play in.

Does it make chest-marking more difficult? I would have thought your skin and a bit of grippo would be much better for clutching the ball to your chest than the glossy material that modern jumpers are made of.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know why AFL jumpers never had short sleeve versions? With the tight sleeves nowadays shown on the rugby jumpers I can't see it as providing any extra tackling opportunities, and I always thought it would make for a more marketable away jumper. (you can probably tell I never played the game).

Do you own a footy jumper? The material feels silky as hell, it'd make it harder to hang onto a tackle and if the weather was even a little wet it'd be slippery.

Or maybe I'm just shyte at footy

Dawes has worn a jumper with 3/4 length sleaves quite a few times. Not sure if he just rolls the sleaves up, or has it made that way - but it's never quite full length.

I reckon he wore it at least twice just this season.
