I really feel for this bloke at the moment. Easily in our best 2 players for the tournament and 1 slip in the area threatens to wash all the good work away with the media.

Lucas, well done on a great tournament. You can hold your head up VERY high and know that we arent holding you to blame. Well played mate and bad luck!

Fortunately I didnt see him crying as the Japanese TV's went off the field pretty much striaght away. However I can fully understand the crying, most teams players do it when they are knocked out. Add the "I just cost my team" feeling that he undoubtably had (he shouldnt but he would have) and it'd bring anyone to tears.

Besides that last challenge, he was even better today then in the rest of the tournament. He even provided some good runs up field when we had the extra man. It will be interesting to see whether he stays with Blackburn and whether he moves permanently to centre back or shifts back to right back.

Still a legend in my eyes, and will serve as Australian captain with distinction.

Good thread. Lucas Neill had a fantastic tournament and grew in stature as the tournament went on. Had a terrific game and was desperately unlucky at the end. I admired the way he behaved after the penalty. No histrionics. Very dignified.

Spot on. Had the situation occurred at the other end of the field, it would have been 10 mins before the spot kick was taken with the Italians carrying on.

Lucas, you've played a brilliant tournament and it's not your fault that you were dudded by a diver and a referee that fell for it.

The blame shouldn't and can't lie at the feet of any one player - not having that sharpness around the edge of the area and being able to turn domianting possession into clear opportunities and goals is what has cost us.

He played a fantastic game but brought it all done in the last minute.
You have to keep your feet when defending inside your own box, by sliding in front of someone and missing the ball you leave yourself wide open.

IMO, he's played his last game for Blackburn Rovers, cause if a Major European club doesn't snap him up after the wonderful tournement he has had then there is no justice.

Will make it into the World Cup team of the Tournement.:thumbsu:

Lucas Neill did nothing wrong at all. The ref ****ed us over again.

Stupid Italian dramatics absolute joke, they don't deserve anything.

I've had just about enough of these Italians celebrating in Australia, FFS if you move to Australia to live, your first side is Australia and you support Australia in everything otherwise **** off home.

Spain or Italy leagues wouldnt accept him cos of his style of play.

Id say the best he could do is Tottenscum, but have a inkling Blackburn will just give him a nice payrise

Great tournament by Lucas, and I'd also like to pay tribute to Scotty Chipperfield. He's come a bloody long way in a few years. I thought he was our best player last night - didn't put a foot wrong in defence and had two shots on target at the other end.

Lucas was our player of the tournament though. I'd recommend Blackburn play him alongside Nelsen in the middle of defence, and use Emerton at right back, whose stocks also rose in Germany.

You have to feel for him, he mus be the most gutted bloke on the planet right now to concede a penalty because of one of the most bullsh1t calls I have ever seen (a close second to the three yellow send off one!!).

Head up mate, we respect you no matter what. I'd rather see us leave with dignity than to win with hopeless decisions a blind monkey could have made better. The ref was literally 5 metres away, and if he couldnt see through that act, well he deserevs to be shot.
