I was working in a pub in StJohns Wood in 1997. I was a bit surprised by the casual constant racism in British society. Punters at the bar seething about Arabs and black people and the Irish.There was terrorism and a horrible class system.

I knew Australia had problems but London was worse than regional QLD where my grandmother lived. I never heard anything as bad from so many people, not in Ingham, not in Colac, not in the Melbourne pubs of my youth.

I was told off by my manager for arguing with idiots about their stupid ideas, and I didn't change anyone's minds.

Tates fantasy version of the Oasis paradise years is utter garbage. He's remembering his youth, and confused his hormones with the zeitgeist.

Oasis lived around the corner from my pub but I never saw them because they were barred for dressing too scruffy.
