2-1 Australia. Hunt scoring with a header from a Catley corner. Australia showing a bit in the 2nd half. Both sides are giving the ball away now and losing challenges/ winning back with challenges.

Germany attack immediately from the kick-off but Arnold saves a hard low shot pushing it wide for a corner. Good effort on the replay because the ball went through a crowd of players.

Some changes had been made prior to the goal. Heyman who came on as a sub earlier was replaced and Fowler who has had trouble getting touches has moved to the striker position by the looks. Freier has come on.

Winonah Heatley has come on in defence. Not sure if it's a debut, I think she might have played once before in a friendly under Gustavsson. (Edit: From reading some match reviews, It was Heatley's debut.)

A win's a win.

Fowler played higher which is where she should always have been. Did Wheeler start?

She started, but it looked like a 4-5-1 formation and Wheeler played quite an attacking role. She was doing some chasing running to their GK when Germany were playing it out of the box, so she was well forward, and she won a couple of tackle challenges in the 2nd half where the Matildas won a bit more possession, but you can see from the stats that overall Germany dominated control of the ball.

Fowler was mostly on the right of the 5 in the midfield. That's how it looked to me. Foord was up front, then Heyman came on as a sub early when Torpey was injured and Foord dropped back, then when Heyman was subbed, Fowler played about 15-20 minutes up top before she was subbed as well.

Foord was the best Matilda.

Matildas released the AFC Asian Cup Stadiums for 2026.

No Melbourne is a surprise. Biggest surprise. It’s like Victorian Government refuse to touch any international competitions.

Adelaide and Brisbane shafted too

Gold Coast works well for me

The Victorian Government hasn't exactly gone out of its way to be welcoming to soccer.

The Matildas games will be sold out wherever they play them, but didn't they fund 100 million to help build the Matildas home base at La Trobe University a couple of years ago.

Possibly there's a clash with AFL venues in Victoria in March.

Large squad of 36 named for the 4 upcoming games against Brazil & Chinese Taipei later this month and the beginning of December.

Matildas Squad

I put an * next to the new names into a senior Matildas squad for the first time, but there's a bunch of other players who have previously been selected in squads without being picked for games or have played previously but haven't been seen for a while.

More details in the link. It says part of the reason for the big squad is that the games aren't in the international window so there may be some players from Europe/US who maybe can't play more than one game.

Polkinghorne playing her farewell games and Torpey out with injury.

I did read that Siemsen scored a hattrick last weekend in the Danish league she plays for, although it's apparently not that strong.

Chinese Taipei should be a pushover at home. Brazil a better test, depending on what squad they bring out.
