It makes perfect sense. The saying comes from a homophobic movement because his name sounds like a homophobic slur. Would it be the same if his name sounded like a racial slur instead and the same principle applied?

Would it fly or would it cross the line?

It's satire.

"I'm offended by that."
And here in lies the key.

It is never possible to give offence, only possible to take offence.

Offence is in the ears/mind of the receiver

Of course, should you be saying something just because you know someone will take offence, then society can determine your level of campaignerism.

#godhatestiger

Not if you're black it isn't.

In fact, it is actually real and relevant. There isn't actually a God to hate Fages, there are police killing black people as a result of perceptions developed during the slave trade.

Neither pun hurts the people involved.
Not that I particularly GAF in this context, but #blackliesmatter would be trivialising something worthy. Godhatesfages trivialises something unworthy. Much greater likelihood for offence to be taken to the former IMHO.

It isn't even an offense thing - and being annoyed that people could get offended at shitty jokes and comments that intend to marginalise is stupid. Can't stand quotes like that Stephen Fry one. Anyhow, in this case it's more that some people don't understand that making a joke born of a bad thing doesn't make that joke inherit the same bad qualities of the original material.

I’m offended by your love of good Charlotte and the opening of the com games.

It's not something I'm comfortable with, and I know it's not something people close to me better equipped on the subject are comfortable with, and would be disappointed in me using it even after the context and satire is explained, so I don't use it. I won't bang on about it anymore.

Fin.
