Jon 'The Other Guy' Ralph aka McGarnagle.

(I couldn't find his FNF live cross srsface that is nigh-on identical)

One of the more smug detractors during the Primus Dark Age.
Is this him?

I was watching the replay of the Port/Essendon game and I just have to put in a word of commendation for Dermott Brereton on this thread as a broadcaster. I thought he was really good in explaining to the viewer the tactics and events happening off the ball that were relevant to the play- events happening not just off the ball but off the screen. Being in Canada I have no chance of being at the game and therefore I am at the mercy of our broadcasters to explain to me what is happening in a game; the truth is, they often are rather poor at this. I found Dermott quite refreshing in this regard.

He clearly knew a fair bit about our team and what it is trying to do in terms of tactics and structure, and Essendon also. I had always found him a bit pompous and laddish, and I doubt I would want to share a beer with him, but actually listening to what he had to say about the game the other night was really good. :thumbsu:

Was listening to double crow the day after the Essendon game and it was funny to hear Stupid and Really Stupid begrudgingly admit that they both think Port are better than the Crows.

McDermott (I'm guessing he's Stupid, as no one is stupider than Rowe) is actually fairly reasonable when he's not caught up in the euphoria of Crowcaine. Granted, he's no Ricciuto and still has to pander to the blue-rinse set, but if Crow supporters hate him and think he hates their club because he was sacked, he must be doing something right.

Oh yea I just love it when Dermott goes into descriptions like "He saw his team mate in the outside corner of his peripheral vision & thought in a split second mind you that if I angle the ball on the outside of my instep & rotate the motion of the dropping ball sideways I can land it on the wrong side of my team mate's opponent & give him clear passage to run onto the ball"........ wonderful dribbling insights

Riccuito is a raving looney when it comes to talking up his beloved Crows, but his opinions on Port are generally pretty balanced and informed. That's the difference between him and the likes of Stephen Rowe or Andrew Jarman. Allowing positive bias towards your club to affect your opinions as a media commentator isn't such a big deal, it's allowing your negative bias to affect your opinions regarding other clubs which is going to turn people off. That's why I'll happily listen to Riccuito but not to the other two, even if he'll occasionally make biased pro-Crow comments.

I actually think ricciuto is the most knowledgable commentator when talking about port adelaide. Certainly does his homework

Dwayne Russell could probably tell you what Sam Gray had for breakfast on his 12th birthday, but other than that you're probably right.

That sounds really creepy.

Really liked him as a player, but then thought he became a bit of a Crows-spruiking flop post-playing days. However he's really started to stick up for both SA teams of late and has on a number of occasions defended Port against some of the more Vic-biased personalities. And you can tell other commentators don't do enough homework about Port, because they always refer to Ricciuto regarding different players etc.

Its a reverse troll;)

Every now and again they do talk a bit of sense. Next bit of sense is due leading up to round one!!

I agree on both. And credit where credit's due, Roo's actually got some integrity and doesn't feel the need to fluff the seats of everything which comes out of Crow land. He's obviously got a preference for the Crows but he doesn't let this get in the way like the bitter and twisted old guard (i.e. Cornes, KG, Rowey etc.)

I've heard this a lot, but i don't actually buy it. McDermott has simply dared on occassion to actually question WTF the AFC are doing and not simply just be a cheerleader. For this he gets dubbed a bitter old bastard who hates the club. Funny we didn't hear anything about this so called hatred of the the AFC for the first 15 years after he was sacked.

Papa,
he has held a grudge since 96. I've spoken to him over a few beers. He wasnt all that kind about the Crows.

Half the time, he and (C)Rowey just want to argue. And you knows whose side (C)Rowey is on!
