I love all these people saying Round 1 doesn't matter.

That said, Malcolm Blight always maintained that Round 1 form can be notoriously misleading.

Not over the last 3 years it hasn't.

The only result that defied what happened later in the year was us beating St Kilda by 4pts in 2012.

9 of the last 24 premiers have lost a round 1 match. It doesn't really matter too much, but the fact that stronger teams are more likely to win matches, meaning more likely to win round 1 matches. There doesn't seem to be a significant trend between round 1 wins and eventual season success.

If we win next weekend I will be starting to believe we are a flag chance too. We need to show we can deal with expectations in a big game.

What that showed os that our best 22 was ok but our list was not deep enough. That coupled with our lack of fitness Is what stuffed us up in 2012 more than anything else.

After we saw the real North Melbourne on Friday night the race for 4th well and truly opened up. Honestly I think the only lock ins are Fre and Haw at this stage.
