When I replied the other day I was only thinking post 1989. Pre 1990 the two that I know something about are Sir Doug Nicholls and Norm McDonald who played about 120 games for Essendon in the 1950's and won a couple of flags and was named in the indigenous team of the century.

Chris Johnson's distant relative Joe Johnson was the first aboriginal player in the VFL, debuted around 1903 and played about 50 games, but have never read much about his exploits.

Nicholls was from NSW.

Even if Port are $15million in debt, how is it the supporters fault?
The Port board have turned into a bunch of entitled whinging Millennials.

"It's not our fault we are broke, the members don't turn up or spend money and the AFL is hard"

How about taking some personal responsibility?

How about creating a product that is seen as valuable to the members?

How about focusing on adding value (with things that are actually valuable to members)?

How about creating an environment where the members feel part of something bigger than themselves?

Hoe about making the members feel heard?

The members will give you every piece of information you need to act upon if you just ask them and listen.

Make the members feel part of the solution not the problem.

“it’s been a smart choice this season...Wines has had a disrupted season with injury”

Roach's narrative that Port people are protesting the coach didn't exist until the game against GWS where we had a crowd of 27k. Why wait until now to play the blame game? It wasn't until Ginever and Tredrea publically stated that Port people are voting with their feet and were unhappy with Ken that he has been able to write this rubbish.

Any club that underperforms the way we have, makes unpopular leadership decisions and ships off popular players is bound to go through a membership and crowd attendance downturn. Roach making out as if it's something extraordinary and specific only to Port people shows just how petty and bitter he is as a person.

It's not like it's an organised boycott anyway! Supporters haven't gotten together in numbers and said that they're refusing to attend, it's just many individuals and families that recognise that they have other things worth doing with their time. This is a universal thing amongst followers of all clubs. For some reason we are special that we should be held collectively responsible for the clubs poor financial situation (which existed long before 2019.)

On a perfect Sat night with their club actually still in the 8, Adelaide got z sub 40k crowd. 2 years ago that crowd would have been a heaving 50k plus crowd. Nah it's just ungrateful Port supporters though.....

If a club as big and frugal as Port cannot make money, then the AFL business model is SCREWED!

Fact is, we do, but we have to pay the piper!

`Jonas has been reliable in defence!' o_O
What a load of absolute BS that is, you could count TJ's good games this season on the fingers of one finger.

Ebert on the radio this morning when asked about declining membership numbers said he can't work it out!

Really? In an off season where we got rid of our best two players after miserably failing to make finals (again) whilst throwing out the co-captains tradition?

He doesn't know why?

Any journo, player or club official that is confused by supporter disengagement should be forced to watch Alyx's side-by-side video of the Shuey/McGovern after the siren goals.

We're the guy that wins $100k on Lotto and blows it on an overpriced kit car while ignoring the $1mil mortgage he's defaulting on.

How frugal have we been? What's that saying "cut one's coat according to one's cloth".

We spend close to the average or below on nearly everything.

You can't really do much more and stay competitive.

Let me get my head around this!

An inept board led by a B grade tv `star' president gives a ridiculous contract extension to a coach whose selection policies and boring as bat sh*t game plan has fallen apart countless times in almost 5 completed seasons, and it's the members' fault?

How about someone in the media understanding we have had enough of the dick brains in charge, and don't want to see any more of our hard earned money and the traditions of the club flushed around the S bend to Bolivar.

Spending ... but getting value?
An AFL club is a business. When you are cash strapped like Port has been for over a decade you need to become creative with any dollars you earn. Port have been 'living on a prayer' for too long.
It might be time to issue Port Club Bonds (REH help me out here) - I am cash poor but would contribute $1000 for no return for 5 years if it meant stabilising the Port ship.
Got a feeling we are in a crisis.
