Nothing shits me more than people who have spent decades sitting behind glass in heated comfort with a full spread put on for them, judging those who pour their hard earned into the club every year and are forced to endure literal trauma because they love this thing that lets them down continually.

Spending ... but getting value?
An AFL club is a business. When you are cash strapped like Port has been for over a decade you need to become creative with any dollars you earn. Port have been 'living on a prayer' for too long.
It might be time to issue Port Club Bonds (REH help me out here) - I am cash poor but would contribute $1000 for no return for 5 years if it meant stabilising the Port ship.
Got a feeling we are in a crisis.
Because the system is ****ed, which is my point.

There has to be some investment. A club with 50k members and 30k crowd averages should not be in trouble in ANY league, let alone one like the AFL where spending is capped.

Until the SANFL takes its hands out of the Adelaide Oval treasury the club will always be in peril.

No other club has to deal with it.

If say, $6 from every $10 pint went to Port Adelaide we’d be laughing.

It would also give me a comeback for my wifes disapproving looks when I head to the bar each time. "I'm just trying to help the club sweetheart"

It's actually insane that the sanfl still have so much power over football in this state. Their competition and it's clubs could die tomorrow and they would still have a say in how Adelaide Oval is run.

“it’s been a smart choice this season...Wines has had a disrupted season with injury”

🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

The supporters hate it, the club is struggling to even make finals let alone win one, Jonas is having his worst season since 2016 and Wines is having his worst season ever. Co-captains has been a failure on every conceivable level. And to top it off the bloke they listed as 'next in line' was Dougal Howard, who got dropped last week. One of the worst football articles I've ever seen.

Nicholls was from NSW.
He was born on an Aboriginal reserve on the banks of the Murray on NSW side but most of his youth he spent in Victoria is my understanding..

The Port board have turned into a bunch of entitled whinging Millennials.

m8. Blaming customers for not turning up rather than improving your business is absolutely not a trait of 'millennials'. You're a couple of generations off there.

Our debt/lack of financial stability is an interesting topic.

Blaming the supporters is as ridiculous as it is simplistic. Don't we have the most "engaged" supporter base in the league? ie conversion from supporter to member is either the best or in the top 3 in the league? Blaming the supporters is completely barking up the wrong tree.

I also think blaming the SANFL/SMA for our stadium deal might be a little simplistic also. Yes they are complete campaigners but from what I understand our deal isn't the worst in the league. Food and beverage costs is another matter.

So what it comes down to is our sponsorship and corporates.

Port, unfortunately is a hard sell. We are second banana in the smallest mainland market. National Exposure is limited. In this market, Crows outnumber us probably 2-1. The Crows, because of this have the state media in their pocket. They are the safe option for any prospective company. The lack of Head offices here means the there is only so much at the top end of town to go around. I've been to functions where the Pirie Street Crowd are involved, where cufflinks and hyphenated names are standard, and it is just assumed that the room is completely full of Crows Supporters. This also has an effect on our gameday corporate opportunities too. The Crows are the default team. To me this is the area we struggle with most. Even Koch with his national TV exposure for the network that runs the game hasn't been able to solve.

Too right. Only Boomers own businesses.

Just on this point, how Rucci can continue to gaslight and victim-blame the supporters and members when the current admin has taken the equivalent of a winning lottery ticket and burned it is extraordinary.

Duncanson, Haysman, Fiacchi, Ginever, Demetriou and a whole host of figures handed Koch, Thomas and Hinkley the keys to a golden future, and these bumbling idiots have promptly tied an anchor to our necks and thrown us into the sea.

If the club have no idea why they are losing members then they really need to have a good hard look at themselves. If they instead take the word of numpties in the media who actually have no idea like this Lee Gasket bloke then we are truly doomed.

I imagine they know exactly why they're losing memberships, they just don't want to publicly admit it. That's why I liked KT's letter from a couple of weeks ago, even if some didn't. It was the first acknowledgment from anyone with any power at the club that maybe things weren't all hunky dory.

Yeah, they know. How could they not.

This is why it’s important to win games & play finals consistently. Winners are grinners in more ways than one.

That happens over in Victoria too. One of the first questions that gets asked at meetings of lawyers is, "So, who do you support?" However, that is after, "Where did you go to school?" Once people learn that you are from SA, they don't ask the footy question. It is not the same for those from Perth.

As for Rucci's comments, I think the word 'could' and phrase 'as much as' are doing a lot of heavy lifting.

So expenses and capital purchases blew out by $3m in 2017.
What were these?? I reckon China played a fair part. This is how the $3.2m collected for membership fees one month earlier in October 2017 seemed to be spent on or used to cover shortfalls.

Prepayments went from $1.8m to $3.3m ............. rent in advance, deposits etc tend be called prepayments
Trade receivable went from $1.2m to $2.0m
Cash at Bank went from $400k to $800k (ignoring $4m government grant held in Trust to build the ACE)

So that is $2.7m of that cash used to increase current assets. Our profit and loss was a bare break even small profit in 2016 and 2017 so the $3.2m was not used to pay for a blow out in expenses in 2017 as that didn't occur.

In 2018 to help represent the $3.5m membership fees collected in advance this is where they seem to have been used to cover.

Trade receivable stayed about the same just under $2m.
Prepayments went from $3.3m to $4.5m ............. rent in advance, deposits etc tend be called prepayments
Other current asset went from $300k to $1.4m .... no idea what this is.
Cash at bank decreased from $805k to $747k
Our year end result went from a profit of $28k to loss of $987k (yes there are non cash items in the profit but they were similar in both years and this is before the land and builds revaluation).

Actually forcing all board members to sit in different spots around the ground amongst the rank and file in the wind and cold for the last 2 rounds has a lot of merit.
