Interesting interview with Crowley, cited 'people management' as a weakness area - what does that refer to?

He described players who weren't giving their all as copping it the worst from Lyon, is that what he's referring to?
I'd say so, Ross didn't put up with bludgers..

Sorry, I don’t want to sound like a dickhead, but I’ve written a few posts on this, I agree 100% with Crowley. Below is one of the posts I wrote a couple of weeks ago, obviously before he was sacked. Geez I was wrong with that first part.🤔

The question I was responding too was why doesn’t Ross coach on the bench like Fagan, Clarkson & Worsfold?

“I am not a Ross lover nor Ross hater, he will start coaching next year & I do believe he is our best option to do so...but...if there is not change to some of his coaching philosophies, he must go.

In saying that I honestly believe the penny has dropped & his comments recently reflect that. He finally gets the faults & has 1 more preseason to sort them out. If he’s not excited by that prospect then he should put his hand up & say ‘I’m done’.

I think his ego will mean he will have a real crack at it.

In answering your question, this is one of his faults, those coaches you mention are club coaches, not team coaches. Ross constantly quotes “let the cobblers.. blah blah blah”, he needs to start doing the cobbling or at least asssist the cobblers throughout the entire club & this includes his assistant coaches.

Coach the assistant coaches & then trust them, then he can come to the bench & manage the players. Fagan learnt from Clarkson, spend time people managing & the rest takes care of itself.

Make no mistake, Fagan is not a coach, but a manager. He understands his limitations & allows those who are better skilled to execute their expertise. E.g He does not set the training drills, but has input. He is a manager.

Ross needs to think about this.”

Pick 7: Who should coach the Dockers next?
1:53 | The West Australian

Fremantle midfielder Andrew Brayshaw says the Dockers’ on-field leaders have stepped up this week as the club pushes to rebound from the shock sacking of Ross Lyon with a win against Port Adelaide.
Lyon became the fourth AFL coach sacked this season when he was blindsided on Tuesday and shown the door after the Dockers’ slim finals chances were snuffed out with a loss against Essendon.
North Melbourne, Carlton and St Kilda have all won the following week after sacking their respective coaches, and the Dockers are hoping they can do likewise against a Power team that needs to win to sneak into the top eight.
“We do have some really good leaders at the club, led by Nathan (Fyfe), and it’s a big week for them and they need to step up, which they have done, to rally the boys and get a win this weekend,” Brayshaw said on Mix 94.5.
“That’s our focus. There’s plenty of young guys that are rattled and the blokes like Dave (Mundy) and Nath need to steer the ship this weekend and get it done.
“People were realising that we’ve got a game to play and we’ve just got to keep moving forward. Training was actually pretty vibrant yesterday.”

Fremantle players were told of Lyon’s sacking on Tuesday morning, with Brayshaw revealing they had been called into the club on a scheduled morning off.
“I was actually playing golf with a few of the boys, we were out on the seventh hole and I got a text and then a phone call saying we had to come in,” the second-year midfielder said.
“We went down there in our golf clothes and then found out.”

Brayshaw said some players were closer to Lyon than others and it had been a “very sad day” for many.
He described the coach as a “really good mentor and a really good friend”, who had changed in recent years, putting significant time into building relationships with his players.
“Ross has been nothing but good to me and he’s put so much time into developing some of the younger players at the club,” Brayshaw said.
“We were all pretty rattled and different guys are closer to Ross than others but it was a very strange day and for a lot of blokes a very sad day.
“Everyone sort of handled it a little bit differently, the way I could describe it is just strange, so much shock and it took a while for everyone to realise what had actually happened.
“He’s a great coach obviously but then he’s a really good mentor and a really good friend as well, I think.”

On another note, how good is Andy with the media. I hope this kid sticks around.

Was the Front Page story for the West Australian headlined
"Wanted New Coach"
And underlined
"Please note- WE got rid of the CEO Too"

An example of a paper and media group GLOATING at their role in destabilising a club.?

Scum..
Yep, was rather.

Of course, but from a Fremantle perspective they must talk to everyone not currently contracted to coach. If nothing else it will help Ratten get the gig at the Saints, which I would love.
In regards to Lyons treatment by the WA media, he only has himself to blame, as much as they are fu**en hopeless in WA, you’ve got to play them correctly. They hate him as much as he hates them & this is the result.
As immature as that is, it is fact.

Fair point.

Immature, we'll call it the "Kersten Syndrome".

How do you play the media correctly ?, suck up to them ?. Give & take in the footy industry, but the media don't like taking it back.

You guys might like this. Maybe not, I don’t know but it seems a reasonable take

Definitely yes. You’re a target in the Channel 7 eyes once Freo coach. The West Australian and Channel 7, sponsored by West Coast (no it’s not the other way around..) make no secret of this.
Taking a club that is forever compared to, harshly, to the mob in Lathlain is the biggest challenge in itself. One club does well, the other will get targeted.
That’s why I hope we get JLo. He’s been a Freo player, he understand the fish bowl mentality of being involved in WA.

I’m sure Belly has Longmuirs number in his iPhone being ex teammates & would have thought some dialogue would have started weeks ago, if not months.
I just hope they go through the full process & interview everyone, including sounding out Brett Ratten, who as a senior coach has positive win/loss ratio & been to 3 finals series.
Not to mention has since been at Hawthorn under the best.
Nah. Hope we give no consideration to sacked coaches. Voss should take over Port, Ratten to St Kilda. We need a refresh approach.

Fyfe's frustration is a classic case of a bunch of sav blanc sipping suits in the ivory tower making a decision based solely on dollars.

Totally ignoring a club champion at the coalface...
Didn't even consult the Captain....
WTF
very poor
And a slap in the face to the heart and sole of our club.
Fyfy was wrong when he said nobody is bigger than the club, there is one person as big as the club and it's Fyfe himself

Really doubt Fyfe would have re-signed with us if not for Lyon, it's definitely a big concern.

I really doubt Fyfe would have seriously considered signing anywhere else regardless of coaches. He's a country WA kid who's the biggest star in town. Getting paid more than he could ever spend at a club with brand spanking new facilities that had just committed to a rebuild. What possible motivation would he have to move to any other club? He's the sort of kid that would rather lead his club to their first premiership. Getting traded to a wealthy Vic club for the chance of a flag is not his style.

Boards do not consult players in these matters. That would be as stupid as Adrian Barich's question.

Of course he's disappointed, Ross was a great coach and Fyfe had faith in the plan. But as Pav said yesterday, we need a fresh approach. Its difficult to see that from the inside. Fyfe will get used to the new coah quickly, hopefully it's JLo.
