Are we talking flags only? That's a long list of non winners.
Grand final appearances? We are on this list
Prelim final appearances? We are reasonably well placed on this list
Finals? We are reasonably well placed on this list too

Just not in the last six years, only Gold Coast and Carlton sit with us on the not playing finals list.

Has anyone ever sat down and worked out over the last 10 or 15 years what our list would look like now if we had always picked the next West Australian available in the draft at our selections?
Would be an interesting exercise

Ok. But I will do it exactly as you specified, instead of who we pick it's the next taken WA player - unless we took a WA player.

2005 - Drum (Max Bailey), Ibbotson, Warnock (Andrew Swallow), Duffield, Stribling (Priddis)
2006 - Collard, O'Brien, Mourish, Smith (McNamara), Foster, Rumble, Copping
2007 - Palmer, Hinkley (Jacky), Mayne, Johnson (Josh Smith), Bradley (Gourdis), Head, Connelly (Stevenson), Pratt, Mourish, Dunn
2008 - Hill, Ballantyne, Suban (Jamie Bennell), Clarke (Todd Banfield), Walters, Bucovaz (Tom Lee), Ruffles (Warren Benjamin), Hall (Kieran King), Sibosado (Jeff Garlett), de Boer, Shepheard, Pearce, van Berlo, Broughton

2010 - Pitt (Jamie Cripps), Mitchie (Alex Fasolo), Mellington (Tom Ledger), Anthony (Rhys Cooyou), Roberts (Anton Hamp), Nick Lower (Jason Johannisen), Bucovaz (Perham), Ruffles
2011 - Sheridan (Bootsma), Crozier (Newman), Forster (Yeo), Neale (Corey Gault), Sutcliffe (Kyal Horsley), Dawson (Cam Eardley), Spurr (Haiden Schloithe), Schloithe (Dell'Olio), Menegola, Wilson-King (Brendan Lee), Pearce
2012 - Simpson, Smith (Ramsay), Duffy, Hannath (Kane Mitchell), Taberner (Sinclair), Howson, Moller
2013 - Apeness (Acres), Pearce (Dayle Garlett), Grey (Marsh), Wood, Vandeleur, Ballard
2014 - Weller (Jarrod Garlett), Blakely, Langdon (Clem Smith), Deluca, Hughes, Smith, Hurley

There's the first part. Looks to me like the club has picked heavy WA and we've had quite a few good choices for interstate picks over picking the next taken local.

It's not ideal but what are we going to do? We can't make them stay. I also don't believe the Darcy one until he actually asks for a trade.

I don't think either of Cerra or Darcy will condemn us anywhere. Darcy is somewhat painful because rucks take forever but at least Meek looks nearly AFL standard now. And unless Cerra actually turns out to be Pendles no2 (I doubt it) then we'll move on pretty quick. Mids are the easier to find and I am pretty confident that Andy and Serong are in for the long haul. Who knows what to make of Tucker, Valente, NOD etc.

We just have to draft the right players and at least this year there seem to be bulk WA KPFs. We need to get our spine right and this may end up being a blessing in disguise if we don't do something stupid.
I'm with you on Darcy. From a distance it seems like the only link between him and Geelong is that he was a country kid who went to boarding school in Geelong. Might as well say that Luke Jackson will ask for a trade because he played junior footy for East Freo.

More generally, you are right. There is very little we can do. Make our program as exciting as we can for ambitious young footballers.

2010 sucked.

Interesting stuff. Barlow and Neale would have been 2 biggies to miss out on. Elliot Yeo would have been handy though. Priddis and Andrew Swallow too. I think we improved a lot from 2008 onwards in our selections. 2010-2013 drafts were ****ed up by the expansion clubs anyway.

Duff sure does have an informed and honest approach when speaking about the Dockers.

At the end of the pod they were speaking about Lachie Neales reasons for leaving (money aside).
Duff mentioned there was an incident at the Cockburn basketball courts where Lachie (being a little fella) was belittled a tall player who he viewed as not fully committed to the club, and he did not take to kindly to the smack talk. Duff said those types of players mostly aren't at the club any more.
Anyone who listened to the pod care to fill in the blanks as to which players was Duff referring to??

He’s talking about Shane Kersten 100%

Cripps is chronically underrated, he'd be our best forward.
And Old Ross the Boss let him go from the Saints
I remember some east based journo (think it was Mark Fine) say that Cripps never wanted to be there from the start. Couldn't wait to get back to WA.

good effort.

just shows, just selecting WA doesn't necessarily work (depending on your picks - GC and GWS got a number of the best WAs over some of those years - probably be better now)

for the Yeo, Cripps, Fasolo, Garletts you miss out on, if WA alone was taken, we would have not got Neale, Barlow, Spurr, Tabs, Weller (=Brayshaw).

Jack Darling was taken a couple after Pitt.
2010 could have been Darling, Alex Fasolo Johannison.
2011 Yeo
Those 4 would have been handy in 2013.
