What is it with WC fans and the desperate desire to have approval from Victorian columnists?

Who gives a damn if they rate us?

Stop relying on eastern state nobodies to decide whether we are any good or not.
It's kinda like the stoic hard ass father who only ever would tell their kid to toughen up. When he tells that kid he's proud of them they know they've done good.

In our win over North, it was the first round and no-one gave a crap.
In our win over Port, it was about how bad Port were.
In our win over Melbourne, it was about how bad Melbourne were.
In our win over Freo, it was two WA teams and no-one cared that much. But there was talk about how good we were playing.

Now, after the Bulldogs game I fully expected to be about how bad the Bulldogs were. And in part, my suspicions were correct.
While your are completely correct it is entirely justified. While we were amazing, there is no team outside of the GC that is 20 goals worse than their opposition. Any other day we would of won by 60-70 points, the Bulldogs completely gave up and let us pile on another 10 goals. I've rarely seen a team just give up like that, especially a team with noted hard workers like Morris, Griffen, Boyd, Cross, Picken and Ward.

And lets not forget, Victorian teams deserve priority from their states media. The West will never cover the intricacies of clubs outside of the Dockers and the Eagles, the same can be said for SA/NSW/QLD media outlets and their respective teams.

Melbourne media write and talk to Victorians as their audience. Fox has such low penetration into WA that they have almost negligable audience there.

There is only evere minor column intches on interstate teams in vic.

Sydney papers are half a page on the Swans and snippets on others. Have a guess what you get in Brisbane and Adelaide?

Such is life, it is normal.

I wasn't referring to myself, more to everyone else seeking Vic approval.

Fair enough.

Just find this whole thread pathetic.

"Why don't they like us?"

"Why don't they respect us?"

**** 'em. Makes the wins that much sweeter when they don't.

It's amazing, no one rates journos except when they are pumping us up then suddenly what they say is really important.

Ed Zachery. Who gives a launched rope of jizz what the media think.
I'd rather back by own knowledge and judgment than the get the opinions from those that don't follow the WCE as closely as I.

I dont care what other people think.

But I seriously cant remember the last time Walls has said anything positive with West Coast. He makes my blood boil.

See the contradiction in these two statements? Walls is an idiot, ignoring him will save you much grief.

to people having a go at gerard healy, surely you can't blame him. the vast majority of the football following population, including our own supporters, tipped similar finishing positions. Sure its great for an 'expert' to be proved wrong, but gerard healy is actually one of, if not the best commentators/journalists going around at the moment.

Disagree personally. IMO Healy has a obvious bias against us since Cuzz left and his hatred of the club is blinding him too the point of stupidity. He hates us more then Walls and Russell combined

I think it is all about being professional. That is where my issue is. It doesn't matter what industry you are in you should be able to balance both sides of the story. The young journalist on here should keep that in mind before he writes ridiculous posts.

I mean Caroline Wilson slagged off Ben Cousins and West Coast for ages, but as soon as he started playing for Richmond, a team she supports, she wrote positive stories about him and the Tigers.

Walls is just a bitter, bitter man who was an average coach.

I digress. Journalism is about balance. It is about presenting both sides of the argument. Too many times when West Coast have won this year it has been about the 'other side playing poorly'. Well, it takes two seconds to stop and think that maybe the other side played poorly because the team they were playing forced them into making errors.

More journalists should learn to put aside their blatant bias and try opening the other eye. The quality of sport journalism in this country continues to free-fall.

To cut the journalists a little slack, it's hard to know the nuances of every team.

Yes, but they get paid to do pretty much that! Until they start doing that they won't get my respect.

I don't care what they say, use it as motivation, execute. Kepp writing the crap, don't. As long as we keep performing we should be happy.

It was last week. :thumbsu: I recorded and watched it, I will also watch tonight's with interest.

Here's another bloke, a legend of the game, that many like to hate. So he didn't like the Eagles for a while there, get over it, move on. Accept that you know more and trust your judgement, that's how I handle it. :D

EDIT: read tesser's post, it's poetry.

That's fine with the papers/websites, but all the tv shows (bar the western front which sucks) spend all their time focusing on Melb teams and totally gloss over our games. We need a decent WA footy show

Just watched On The Couch. Roos and Sheahan were very profuse with their praise of the Eagles, and Healy wasn't far behind. And it's noticeable that they've mentioned the ups of us before they've mentioned the Bullies. Sheahen went as far as to state that he wouldn't be surprised if we're in a winning position at some stage on Sunday.

agree healy is one of the best and most of the criticism was justified

Yeah I saw it too. Paul Roos is a gun.
Only thing that disappointed me was the lack of Shuey love.

Not much love on One Week At A Time either. Usual story that the Bulldogs were terrible and it had nothing to do with our pressure

Hang on, after that Robert Walls discussed how our run and carry was very good and a couple of other things, then he said it was great from a club he felt was underperforming for a few years, because of those well known circumstances. Yeah, they didn't discuss it much, but they did at least give some credit. They also showed the coaches stockmarket, with Worsfold at the top of the tree. ;)
