Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

I'm looking forward to the hearts coming in and can see myself jumping on their bandwagon. Outside the socceroos I've never really supported any soccer side. When the Victory first started, I was really put off by the INSIF crowd and found it hard to actively support them.

Your name may be an apt name for your support of the new club. ;)

THAT LOOKS AMAZING!
I really hope they do become Sporting Melbourne instead of Heart but it seemed that everyone thought Heart will 100% the name.
I also heard during the Jets vs Sydney game that they will officially announce this sides name and colours after the Australian Open when they will be more media attention, even if the NAB cup will get more coverage than them probably :p

What are you actually expecting from the crowd of the new club?

Do you really think a club that is expected to draw large support from the Croatian community would be any less fanatical and boistrous than what you see from Melbourne Victory fans?

I was never a fan of them joining the league because I didn't understand why we needed to dilute the support of the A-League's most supported and successful club but there does seem to be quite a strong anti-Victory sentiment out there. You may have a small portion of our fans buying memberships for both clubs but I wouldn't think we'd lose much support.

Therefore I'm now looking forward to our little cross-town rivals joining the league. :)

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

Where has the expectation that the new team is going to get mainly croatian support come from? That would be a diaster.

This will never happen because all the state league clubs have their own interest at heart, but they need to remove the all ethnic clubs from the victorian state league, split the area into 2-3 regions (however many a-league clubs the FFA wants to give them) and align one aleague club to each region. That way you cover everyone regardless of skin colour, beliefs, race, height etc and each area has an a-league club that is actively involved with them.

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

I would support the bats, superb. i half heartedly support victory, but could see myself supportin the bats, the kit and mascot actually seems australian.

Would think it would be better off if they played games at Bob Jane Stadium though, as i think the south-east region has a lot of support which they can gain (you have Clayton and Oakleigh as die-hard victory fans and then nothing)

Not for the first time you've gone way off track. I didn't suggest that they would be a predominantly Croatian club at all.

I just had a conversation with a person of a Croatian background the other day and he seemed to think that many of his mates had not adopted Victory as their club so with the expected red and white colours and John Didulica as their football operations manager they might draw a bit of support from the Croatian community.

My initial point was that the supporters of the new club will try and replicate the kind of loud and vocal support that Victory fans are known for.

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

You've changed from 'draw large support from the Croatian community' to 'bit of support from the Croatian community' but yes large support doesnt necessarily mean predominantly, so i'll give you that.

Anyway, i think both clubs will be more successful if they associate themselves with a general area, the victory model of being the state representative is no longer appropriate and with the new club aiming at 'traditional' supporters, there is probably a decent overlap of supporters both teams are targeting.

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

I will support the team who has alot of Preston Lions fans

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

http://www.theage.com.au/sport/socc...t-but-stars-may-be-missing-20100126-mwb7.html

The Heart is expected to announce its name and colours - almost certainly red and white - later this week. The Heart syndicate had been hoping to announce details before Christmas, but was held up by legal wrangles. It is believed that part of the delay was caused by a need to mollify the AFL, who argued no other club could use the words Melbourne, Football and Club in its official business name because of Melbourne Football Club.

That's good stuff.

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

Really doubt the picture posted is legit, too good to be true.

The idea of 'Bats' makes sense because the owners were really focused on the history of Melbourne the city, red and white being the city's colours and what not, so utilising John Batman in the club somehow would add to that.

But yeah, really pessimistic that that picture is legit.

damn i hope thats the real deal, it looks incredible.

enough to get me to switch from the victory? well, no - i was at the first ever melbourne victory a league match and i've been hooked ever since.

i don't think the 'ethnic' concerns are that invalid, personally. we know that fans of old ethnic teams in the NSL shunned the A league and the victory for the way in which they were treated when the league was created. we also know the likelihood of these fans coming back now to help shape the culture of this club.

in no way do i equate 'ethnic' with 'bad'. but the potential is there if fans end up creating a toxic culture. to be honest, the uncertainty is probably enough to keep me away from the first derby.

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

someone should send that picture into the club to give them some ideas, i doubt it would be the real thing and its likely whatever they've come up with is worse.

It wont be ethnic as long as it represents an area and ethnic has nothing do to do with violence or anything like that, but it just limits the supporter base of a club and puts them out of the mainstream. Thats the main issue.

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

I heard the other day that the Heart wants to sign a major Greek player.....anyone else hear this? Would be interesting in vieew of the 'ethnic' debate going on here.
