Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

I asked this before. What the possibility that melbourne football fans go see both sides?

Your the Melbourne expert, you tell us!:p;)

But seriously living in Perth there are heaps of people that attend both Eagles and Freo games just to get their weekly hit of footy.

I'm assuming there is the same percentage of people in Melbourne that attend AFL games each week regardless of who is playing.

You would think there would also be a percentage of football purists that would gladly attend both Victory and Heart games just to appreciate the game, not support one team over the other.

I myself don't understand that mentality but more people at the games the better.

I think at the start there will be heaps! A can see a lot of fringe Victory supporters going to Heart games to check them out.
If the Heart have some early success they may even switch.

What, with this?

Apparently.

I don't see it but that was the story.

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

Apparently with the new logo, they've breached the Intellectual property of the Lord Mayors charity foundation.

Didn't quite hear all of it, but that logo that they have designed and released may have to be changed.

No, you've got it wrong.

The Lord Mayor has lodged an objection with IP Australia last week because they reckon "Melbourne Heart" is a trademark breach of their charity fund the "Heart of Melbourne". Apparently the Lord mayor has already spent a shitload setting up the charity campaigns using that name, and that the football club will cause branding confusion.

Anyways, the club has ignored them and gone ahead and named themselves "Melbourne Heart" anyway, opening themselves up to possible legal challenge. lol what a disaster.

Ahh fair enough.

I must admit when I saw the logo I thought that I might have had it wrong.

Melbourne Heart - Heart of Melbourne, I can see there being some form of issue but it won't get changed.

Disaster..... You muppet.

There is no issue here. The name wont be changed. Im sure Melbourne Heart received legal advise prior to announcing the name of the club, so for them to have come this far all signs point to no issues.

no need for name calling champ.

Yesterday the FFA went ahead and finalised the trademarks for Sporting Melbourne and Melburnians, looks to me as if they are preparing contingency plans.

Similarly Munn's comments in the media that they'll start off as Heart for now, but they might endup with another nickname in the future doesn't instil confidence in me that everything is as smooth as you suggest.

Do you work for the HUN by any chance?

Calling this a disaster is nothing short of being overly dramatic. Issues like this come up every day regarding trade mark rights, and in the end nothing is achieved.

The lord mayor is trying to have a crack at MHFC hoping to get a few extra $$ out of the situation. Worst case MHFC give him a small sum to leave them alone. Hardly a disaster.
A more likely situation is the further down the legal path they take this, the more likely the Lord Mayor will know he won't win, thus withdrawing the claim and saving on legal costs.

I would have a hunch the same issues would have been around (if not worse) if the club was called Sporting Melbourne. Could you imagine all the sports clubs with Melbourne in their name opening up some form of lawsuit. At least in that case there could be a fight on somewhat similar grounds as both companies would be sports related. Unlike what we have here.

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

Heart will be relying on this. We aren't going to grow a supporter base like the Victory did straight away.

I hope there will be plenty that do go to both games, I can't stand Victory but I still go to the games to see some football live.

What was Melbourne's first year membership figure?

I thought I read it to be at about 3,000 people.

If that's the case, I would imagine the Heart to blow that figure out of the water.

Also the Victory played out of Olympic Park. There crowd figures would have been kinda low. I expect the Heart to have a better start than the Victory. On and off the pitch! ;)

Not really.

Our crowd figures for season 1 was around 14k, which was certainly a good effort.

On the pitch, well it would be pretty tough to do worse than what we did. The wheels fell right off mid season.

14 k is certainly a good effort. Melbournians certainly love their sport.

All I am saying is people shouldn't expecting Melbourne Heart to be a Melbourne Victory in terms of crowds straight away.

The Heart will start off with a reasonable basis, I think after people see the quality of the coach and the excitement and rivalry of the Heart vs Victory, it will attract more new fans to the game in Season 2, 3 and 4 etc of the Heart.

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

in what many call a "plastic" league, marketting is everything. in a crowded sports market in australia, u can't overstate how important it is.

heart have stuffed it by going with this name.

they needed a point of difference to melbourne victory - they can't rely on old south melbourne and melbourne knights fans disenfranchised by the victory to create a succesful link.

sporting melbourne would've done it. it would've been a completely different marketting approach to melbourne victory, and it would've created a traditional link back to europe.

i don't know how heart will go, but i'm not that optimistic just because of that lacking a point of difference to the existing team.

Your right, because Victory is such a fantastic and flawless name. Not to mention all the traditional links it has to European football.

If South Melb and Melb Knights fans baned together (lol) to support the Heart, the club will be set for life. Both groups have the most loyal and fanatical supporters in this state.

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

u could not have misunderstood what i said more mecha... i'm saying that victory don't have any 'traditional' football links.

i'm saying that in doing that, melbourne heart had an opportunity to create a point of difference between victory and heart.

perhaps read the post next time

i couldn't have been much clearer about saying the heart needed a point of difference, and needing a different marketting approach.

Well in that case disregard my initial comment.

I feel my point still stands about South Melb and Knighs fans. I dont think in anyway Heart is relying on them to jump ship but if they did it would be a fantastic effort.

Support for Victory had stagnated and is now in decline. There is no better time to come into the league. All you would have to do is offer is a second option and you would be successful, but I'm sure Heart would be doing all they could to go above and beyond that.

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

I wasn't fussed on the Victory when they first came in, so missed that boat. Have always said I would sign up to the next A-League team in Vic, so will become a Hearts member/supporter

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

I'm going for them. I never really went for the Victory. The colours and name are fantastic too.

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

I do expect it to rise soon though. We'll be playing ACL shortly, World Cup fever in June, and then the new stadium opens.

Injuries will **** any chance Victory had in the ACL. Drew the hardest group and need to be 100% fit to have any chance (which is not possible). World cup fever will help both teams. Heart play all games at new stadium while Victory will be stuck in Etihad for a few.

The Victory are a good chance to loose every game from now till the start of the new season. Might leave a sour taste with the supporters who expected so much from them this year.
