Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

Injuries will **** any chance Victory had in the ACL. Drew the hardest group and need to be 100% fit to have any chance (which is not possible). World cup fever will help both teams. Heart play all games at new stadium while Victory will be stuck in Etihad for a few.

The Victory are a good chance to loose every game from now till the start of the new season. Might leave a sour taste with the supporters who expected so much from them this year.

1. So you're basically saying it's impossible for Melbourne Victory to finish second in the group? Huge doubts, given we did it last time with a far inferior squad.

2. Don't know why you're bringing  into this. They've got nothing to do with my comments. Hope you're not trying to turn this into a Victory vs. Hearts debate, cos we all know which way that will go.

3. Victory supporters aren't as fickle as others, we still get strong crowds even when our form is off. I think the excitement and buzz of all those factors (ACL, WC, SSS) will contribute more positively to our attendances than what a couple of losses will do to harm them.

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

What was Melbourne's first year membership figure?

I thought I read it to be at about 3,000 people.

If that's the case, I would imagine the Heart to blow that figure out of the water.

Also the Victory played out of Olympic Park. There crowd figures would have been kinda low. I expect the Heart to have a better start than the Victory. On and off the pitch! ;)

What was your first year membership figures?

14 k is certainly a good effort. Melbournians certainly love their sport.

All I am saying is people shouldn't expecting Melbourne Heart to be a Melbourne Victory in terms of crowds straight away.

The Heart will start off with a reasonable basis, I think after people see the quality of the coach and the excitement and rivalry of the Heart vs Victory, it will attract more new fans to the game in Season 2, 3 and 4 etc of the Heart.

Sounds like thats exactly what you were trying to say.

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

Not really.

What was the Victory's starting crowd and finish on the table in their first season?

What I said was we ain't going to be the way the Victory are now straight away, but if people can cast their minds back to the start of the A-League, I don't think it is out of the question to get the same levels of support they had in season one and finish higher on the table?

Comprehend?

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

the issue about having two teams in melbourne is what the problem the old nsl had with regards to ethnic division!

i was listening to john safran's sunday night safran and he was talking about that very issue, that even with the melbourne victory around there were pockets of fans that refused to sit alongside each other

melbourne heart is a bad idea for football in australia. it will cut down the crowd numbers at the football in melbourne (because melbourne arent big fans of the football). and it might bring back the bad old days of the nsl where only croats or serbs supported a team, contradicting the idea of a uniting league where there is to be no siding from an ethnic basis

also in sydney, people wont be so certain about the melbourne-sydney rivalry anymore after if they dilluted the amount of teams coming from melbourne. however you can look at it another way, it will mean two teams to hate coming from south of the border instead of one

I dunno TB, given you are using the logo I'm taking a stab that you are in the same boat as me - A football fan that hasn't bought into the Victory bandwagon. (I watched your mobs game on the weekend - Lucky lucky lucky!!)

I know quite a few people the same who are looking forward to having a side to support that isn't the Victory.

FWIW on the logo - I like it, assuming they are going to wear red and white stripes, the "M" looking virtually like the strip is actually really quite good IMO

what like sunderland and southampton? haha

interesting how influential mebourne victory is. so much so the victorian bushrangers cricket team have borrowed the design for their odi/ twenty20 strips

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

LMAO - Yes, because a white V on a navy blue jersey is just so very unique to Bandwagon FC ;) Remember what sport this site primarilly caters to now ... ;)

& yeah, I'd prefer certainly Hoops over the Sunderland/Southhampton style, but so be it if that's what they choose

hoops eh? much like celtic? but red? hoops is more a design for scottish football isnt it? or qpr :p

but this is soccer, if you dont like the strip! you can just change it!

much like how perth glory failed to get their strip right for 7-10 years, they finally came up with an acceptable design, derived from newcastle utd's! but keeping the violet colours of perth glory to avoid confusing it with the relegated newcastle utd franchise :p

i mean, even manchester utd have now added a black v on their strip! although AIG is a dodgy naming sponsor to still be carrying on your strip

I have no doubt The Melbourne Heart will have one of the best supporter bases in the league. Yet they will be the small team in Melbourne by a considerable distance to The Melbourne Victory.

I expect crowds of around 10 - 12k for the Heart, I know a lot of people in Melbourne that never liked or couldn't feel passionate about the Victory and are simply looking to follow the new team from the start. I hear rumors of the club saying they have had over 7,000 people express an interest in being members of the club already.

On the logo, I was always a fan. I think it is a bold statement. Love it. On the strip, I think they will go with stripes but I too prefer hoops.

haha It's not so much the clubmoreso in that I really liked the fake "Bat" thing that was linked that had a hooped shirt - Looked awesome.

to avoid confusing it with the relegated newcastle utd franchise :p

Maybe they should have gone Newcastle style and emulated the yellow peril strip :D (Sorry TB :p)

i mean, even manchester utd have now added a black v on their strip!

haha i'm sure you are trolling and do actually know why the Corporation has the V on their shirts this year.

Agree that would be an acceptable figure, it's in the range of what the Storm get, and what i expect the Rebels to be getting. Realistically, it's not THAT far behind MVFC either, i mean outside of the big games against Sydney FC, Adelaide etc, they usually get just on or a tad more than 20k I think? We need to take into account also that like MVFC, likely to get big crowds against Sydney FC, and the Melbourne derby will be 35-40k minimum every time.

If that 7,000 figure you heard is accurate, that's an excellent start for a club that really isn't marketing itself yet :thumbsu:

expects loads of waldo comparisons if they go with the hoops.

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

Good get in Bolton :thumbsu: . Also happy with the sponsorship deal, I'd much rather Westpac than all those stupid Intralot ads :D .

1. Have you seen the group you pulled? 3rd would be a great effort.

2. Heart have everything to do with your comments. Your posting in a thread about Melbourne Heart.

3. Fickle or not, crowd numbers are dropping. Fact.

Mate, are you joking? You're basing this on what? We consistently have higher crowds that Sydney so I don't really get where you're coming from, feel free to enlighten me though.

Heart poses some interesting thoughts for me, I have followed Victory since their inception as well as being a member for the inaugral year, however living in Bendigo I dont get to many games so haven't bought a membership since. I attended both Grand Finals and loved both of them, getting right into it and almost went to Sydney on the weekend. So yes I support Victory but my support has waned this year and although I have watched a few games on TV I haven't attended one match.

I am gathering interest in Heart, however I doubt i'll jump ship as I hate people swapping clubs they support. I just dont have any passion for Victory anymore, it is merely just a club to follow in our local league. The Victory doesn't have a great deal of appeal in my eyes anymore, not in the same way I support Everton.

Geez the Heart should have gone with that 'Bat' idea, that was amazing and would have made me very close to jumping Schip (born comedian), that was bucketloads better than Heart.

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

Melbourne Heart announce the signing of Clint Bolton from Sydney FC.

http://melbourneheartsyn.com/default.aspx?s=aleague_newsdisplay&id=32603

Melbourne Heart also announce one of the biggest sponsorship deals in A-League history with Wetspac

I s'pose if people didn't think the club was serious, they do indeed now.

Considering how some clubs in the AFL have struggled to pull off a sponsorship deal, Heart getting Westpac is a brilliant effort. $2mill over 3 years will give the club a big lift and kick.

Bolton, eh. There are better keepers around but I don't think he'll be on a big contract so not that big of a deal.

I'm 100% certain that your just a troll who has very very limited knowledge.

That's bullcrap. The only fans that go out of their way to not stand together are the North and South End, and that because they have opposing styles of support, not because of any dislike.

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

I will be supporting the Heart. Have been to a couple of Victory games, and watch them on TV most weeks, but just never felt a part of it, which surprised me as I have been a massive follower of the world game since the early 90s.

I am getting excited with the names we are signing and think we will have a very competitive squad come round 1. Love the colours, hope for a good traditional kit (no zig zags or Vs).

Can't wait to watch them at the new buble dome.

I think that there will be good support in season 1. Plenty of people that love football, but not fully aligned with the Victory.

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

It will almost definitely be stripes.

I am 99% certain.

No zig zags and V's for sure.

If not stripes it will be hoops or maybe a sash.

Definitely I would say it will be a traditional football top.

You'll get your stripes, but mark my words, the kit will have some sort of gaudy detail on it.
