Morris clearly "tunnelled" Gamble in tonights game by taking his legs away while flying for a mark.

This tactic is very dangerous and has the potential to cause some serious injury.

The AFL really need to look at this as it appears to be a manouvre that is being practiced and honed by defenders such as Morris (Bulldogs) and Bolton (Sydney).

Hopefully Gamble recovers ok from this and can play next week.

I thought gamble had to reach back for the ball rather than jumped up and had someone run under him. Not tunnelling from my point of view just bad luck.

He was definitely airborne when he took the mark, had his legs taken out from under him and hit his head on the turf on the way down.

I agree with the OP saying it's a dangerous practice, but in this case I don't think there was any malice in it. I think Morris was running flat out just behind Gamble, and his momentum caused him to take Gamble's legs.

Probably changed the momentum of the game at that stage too, as IIRC he would've been lining up to put us four goals up just before half time. Hawkins missed the kick, and the Dogs whisked it down and kicked a goal at the other end.

Feel sorry for the lad but to lay any blame on Morris is a joke. There was absolutely no mallice involved. These things happen in footy, toughen up Rusty boy.

Morris doesnt have a malicious bone in his body, mores the pity. He was merely contesting the ball. He cant be expected to back off the contest because his opponent jumps at the ball.

Nothing in it,total accident.

I did get a laugh out of some dopey Dog bitch on SEN late last night who said the GFC medical staff delibrately took so long to get Vegas off the ground so it would stop the Dogs run on.

EDIT :
Unfricking believable that Mods changed my f***ing post.Stop being so bloody precious.Simply because I called her a "dopey bitch"

It is all a conspiracy. Nothing to do with the health of a player.

Thats a shocker of a call. The contact was accidental and Gambel had to reach back for the mark and what was Morris supposed to do, momentum was carrying him forward and unfortunately with Gambel going back and Morris coming thorugh contact was inevitable so that was NOT a tunnel.

You need some sleep.

I don't know how you can say it wasn't tunneling. Morris clearly took Gamble's legs out with his body causing Gamble to land on his head. It's pretty hard to argue otherwise IMO, and it's not really a grey area, he either did or didn't.

Now I don't think Morris intentionally did it, I'm not even sure it was avoidable given the way Gamble went up for the ball, regarless of Morris' intentions he tunnelled Gamble and it should be a free kick. It's a bit like if you chop someones arm. Regarless of if you were intending to hit the ball that is a free kick every time.

It was a courageous marking attempt by Gamble, he was always going to be off balance coming down. The tunneling was incidental, not deliberate and not worthy of a thread..

A good exponent of tunnelling makes it look unintentional, but make no mistake, this incidental contact to the lower half of the body of a man in the air is a calculated one.

Don't start sounding like a StKilda whinger.Everytime one of their players hit the deck hard in a marking contest they say it was a tunnel.

Im still trying to work out why the free kick / mark was paid. Neither of them were there.

You weren't the Bulldogs fan standing behind aisle 38 on level 1 on Friday night who thought Chapman was playing in defence on Akermanis, and called the umpire a ref by any chance are you? Seems you're about as clueless as that guy was.

Lol, plently of clueless footy goers around, however if you dont control a mark to the ground I cant see how it can be paid. Check the reply and get back to me.

If you have a good look at the replay you see Gamble had control of the ball until the point where the ball was knocked out of his hands on the way down....

For that matter I can't see how the ump (whilst on the blind side) was able to pay Akers half volley mark along the boundary line which ended up being a goal. The umps made an effort on not paying frees that weren't clear cut all night (for and against both sides) ones like that one and even the Higgins trip (again the ump was in the wrong position to make a call as he 10 players around him blocking his view). What's the point of having 3 umps and even boundary umps when they can't clear cut decisions right. Hmmm
