Has to be either Bret Thornton or Jarrad Waite (or maybe co-captains)

Andy Carrazo in the leadership group with Nick Stevens, Andrew Walker, Brendan Fevola, David Teague, Barnaby French. If we get a Mal Michael and/or Jimmy Bartel you can add them in the mix.

Waite is still along way from being captain, he's still laong way from being a good and consistant player. Thornton.. maybe...

Stevens will most likely get it.

But if Kouta decides he doesn't need another 1Mil and steps down next year, I'd like to see French get the captaincy. Leadership group of Stevens, Thornton, Waite and Teague.

Yeah I a big fan of Waite. Tough, corageous, leads on and off the field, highly respected and could be a superstar at CHF/CHB/Onball. Thornton is great and deserves a go too. Nick Stevens can wait and show his worth on and off the field first, not doubting his potential to Captain the Blues though. I just think Waite and Thornton, both KPP and real improvers and respected players/men should get the nod.

assumption is kouta, campo, lappin will have retired or be i the last year of their contracts when we decide to appoint a new captain

i'd say stevens would be the next captain

with such a young group you can only guess on who would be in the ledership group
thornton
whitnall
fisher
waite
scotland
fevola is he can get consistent

its hard to say who should and will be in the leadeship group as different players are picked for different reason.

some cause they are natural leaders
other cause they talk and think really well and convey the coaches message
some cause they just do the things on the ground that inspire others

also players picked for the leadership group are generally picked from within the playing group, so a lot depends on how much respect they have from within the playing group.

from other posters on big footy it has been suggested stevens is the leader at the moment, he is the one who takes on most of the captain's responsibility at the club.

(respected players/men should get the nod)
it all depends if they are respected by the playing and coaching group, what we think of them has little relevance.

Big Lance Whitnall will be the next captain of this great club...

There is little chance we will trade him and I think within the next 2 years, we should appoint him as the captain.

I would love for thornton to get it, i am a big fan of his.

The one thing i hate about Waite is although he has great athleticism, his vision is very very poor. As soon as he gets the ball all he has eyes for are the goals and he never looks inside if on the wing...he needs to change that

Stevens is the obvious candidate and the safest option by a mile.

he will need to show more ticker than he has demonstrated this year. Some of his efforts in trying to get rid of taggers this year have been pathethic. e.g: Selwood, Riley.

Some of those games were around the time he spent time in hospital. Fair effort to even get on the park play I'd suggest. The easy option would have been not to play.............Fevola is another example, taking pain killers every week for the past couple of months just get out on the field.

Let me save you time and state the obvoius replay.............'if your on the ground your fit to play"...........well sorry, but sometimes that comment is just not practical given the pressure the clubs exert on them to play. Especially in our case, with no other viable options to take the place of the like of Stevo, Fev, Campo & Lappin who have all obviously been carrying injuries in recent times.

I appreciate he might have been crook but I still don't think he leads by example on the footy field to be the next captain.

Once Kouta has stepped aside I believe the next captain should be between Lance or Thornton. I don't believe that Stevens has proven his leadership worth as yet. His style of play and consistency under pressure just doesn't stack up at the moment.

Agree. I would actually like Carlton to appoint a really young Captain. Thornton would be an excellent choice.

As much as I love T-Bird, the next captain should be Stevens.

I think it's best for the team if the captain plays in the middle of the ground. Plus Stevens is the obvious choice. He is probably the most vocal member of the leadership group and he leads by example and runs hard all day.

Yea, i think Stevens will get it, though i'm not convinced he's the best for the Job. I think if Lance sticks around it will be him. Thorton would be a great choice, perhaps better for the direction of the club, admitting we've got a long road ahead and need a captain who'll be around for 8 or so years. They're the only 3 i could even image at the moment.

Can't see Waite as a captain at the moment. Two years may change that, but he doesn't seem the type to me. Walker might have the right stuff, but he's still too young for the gig and probably will be when Kouta departs.

...and Stevens shows great leadership qualities! No way, Thornton and Waite for mine. Young and vibrant players who would die for the Navy Blue!!! Stevens can wait and can be in the leadership group but in my opinion its a 2 horse race b/w Thornton and Waite - maybe even co-captains!?

digby Morrell he would be a great captain. He could lead u guys to a few more W/Spoons.That way yur cabnet will keep gettin topped up.
