Well, after they convinced the peaceable natives of New Caledonia, who truly loved their French masters, to rise up, anything is possible, even making the Brits violently racist.

The very real cause of these riots is decades of austerity then American tech like social media fanning the flames.

I agree with this, but would also add British exceptionalism is hard-wired into many Britons’ minds. The British upper class are the original masters of propaganda - the belief in King and Country has never been anything other than a means of motivating the working folk to serve the upper class. It is telling that both sides have so far refused to engage in anything like general mobilisation and as your post points out, the Russians have an older force by traditional standards and as we know, the Ukranian average age is even higher.

Its a weird inversion of the usual young men dying in pointless wars. It also puts so lie the notion there was a "full scale assault" by Russia or that Ukraine is fighting for its "existence".

Zelensky actually mentioned this as key achievement of the operation - the "exchange fund".

Ukraine obviously plans to swap these conscripts for their experienced fighters Russia has to alleviate Ukraine's dramatic manpower shortages.

There's a big problem with this plan though.
