What? It's possible to be a queer lefty in lebanon? But I thought every gay person got stoned to death or thrown off a building in every single Arab country! I thought that because I'm racist
My wife and her family are Lebanese Muslim . They’re the most kind hearted caring people I’ve ever met . Her parents Christmas tree is bigger than mine every year and the backyard cricket game on Christmas Day with 80 lebos is a sight to behold .

If I didn't know this was the lebanese flag I'd probably assume it was the flag of the North Pole. Very festive

the problem with this is the opinion doesn't shock anyone, most just shrug their shoulders or in fact argue that this clearly isn't the case.

how did we get here as a society?
Honestly it started with 9/11.

As a society the western world still suffers PTSD from that event. In the immediate aftermath of that event the best things about our society were dismantled and without them we lost our way. We've never found it again.

I'm not saying we were a perfect society before then either but there was enough about us or our mythologising that made us want to aspire to be better humans

This woman is an insane racist, like basically all Germans.

Compare what she says about Ukraine to Gaza, it is stomach churning.

Honestly, we should never have let these monsters respawn after WWII

Lebanon is the friendliest country I've ever visited.

Even in the "terrorist strongholds" like Dahiyeh and Baalbek, people were so nice and genuine.

She’s a member of the greens, interesting position compared to her Australian counterparts.

The German Greens are absolutely nuts. Lots about the Australian Greens shits me, but they're good on this stuff.

This guy is hardly a pro-Putin stooge lol.

President, Kyiv School of Economics; Minister of economy, Ukraine, 2019-2020; Associate professor, University of Pittsburgh
Article he's linked to is very good too:

"But Biden/Kamala are just as bad as Trump"

Yeah, miss me with that absolute nonsense.

30 day deadline is after the election… would be quiet the move to pull defence if you are in a caretaker government.
And yes they’ll claim that they’re in caretaker mode even if Harris wins.

They've been supplying the weapons for Genocide for over a year now. This could have been stopped long ago. Surely you're not suggesting we should be cheerleading Kamala and Biden? "but if trump had been in charge they would have killed more people' That's absolutely disgusting mate

Last month this was reported:

So the Biden admin deliberately ignored information that would require it to begin the process you claim is happening now five months ago.

How many deaths has that caused? 50K? 100K?

People are starving, dying of dehydration and preventable illnesses and have been for months, aside from the rlentless slaughter from the IOF. And the Biden admin did nothing to prevent it. They aren't better than Trump.

They just rely on PR to fool idiots.

So a year into a genocide, they give a 30 day warning to let aid in?

Apart from so obviously just being another PR stunt, this is just so cynical as to be vomit inducing.

The reality is Biden/Harris have armed, funded and provided diplomatic cover for the genocide in Gaza.

This happened on their watch. They sent the money and bombs.

Any talk of what Trump did in his term or might do in the future is pointless right now.

Oh they've warned Israel have they. They sent a letter. How brave. An obvious bluff which Israel will continue to call.

Honestly I've been sympathetic to lesser evil voting in American elections in the past, but this is really an unprecedented situation and I'm not so sure anymore when you look where it's brought them. Is it really good for humanity if a Democrat president is allowed to aid and abet a genocide and still expect that they shouldn't suffer any electoral consequences? Is that a good precedent to carry into the future? Is the best way to leverage the limited power you have as a voter to concede to pre-emptively surrender it every single time, and just hope that somehow your elected official will do what you want because you were so nice and civil with them? Why is the onus never on the elected official to actually appeal to voters on what they want and make concessions, isn't that kind of the entire underpinning of the concept of a representative democracy?

Furthermore, I'm sorry but I just can't begrudge Arab, especially Lebanese and Palestinian Americans for not being able to bring themselves to punch the card for the candidate and party that is currently carrying out a genocide of their people. That's a profoundly disgusting position to put someone in and the glee with which the blue-no-matter-who types respond "enjoy your Trump detention centres then!" is sickening.

That IRA mural is on a street called Beechmount Avenue off the Falls Road they re-named RPG Avenue because they used to, well, fire RPGs down it at British troops (you can see their homemade street sign in this pic).

The fact that peace could come to such a violent and divided place - and hold - is something that gives me great faith in humanity.
