It was Zaire once upon a time.

From what I can gather the term 'Guinea' derives from an old European generic description of people who lived along the Senegal River. Seeing as it flowed through the three territories (which were initially French Guinea, Spanish Guinea and Portuguese Guinea respectively) the name Guinea stuck when the countries gained independence (Guinea = French, Guinea-Bissau = Portuguese, Equatorial Guinea = Spanish).
Don't forget Papua New Guinea

Africa is a bit of a mess when it comes to naming conventions of the countries.

Guinea
Guinea-Bissau
Equatorial Guinea

3 different countries

Similarly 'Republic of Congo' and 'Democratic Republic of Congo' are 2 different nations
Back when Pointless was on Australian TV, HoneyBadger35 and I realised that you could win almost any country related category by answering Equatorial Guinea. It's become a real personal favourite
