Totally different list profile.

They have a big group of players in the 23-28 age group that are playing very good footy, especially their midfield. Then you throw in some good youngsters.

Basically Sheezel, Wardlaw, McKercher etc in 2-3 years.
That’s really not true when you go look at who played for them today but it’s cool let’s keep making excuses.

Blokes not fumbling, not dropping chest marks and kicking truely. This is the true difference, our skills would fall down in kick to kick let alone a match environment. See it every game, theres a reason fumbles are called coach killers. It may be coaching for sure as ultimately the coach should determine the amount of ball work that happens at training.
Do you think maybe the skills being poor has something to do with the game plan and the players not being confidently in it? We play on average 8-10 first rounds pick every week. Skills normally aren’t an issue for high picks. They don’t seem to be for other clubs. We must have really lucked out picking the ones with poor skills.

i remember many lamenting how quickly adelaide had rebuilt
Even I can remember that, wasn’t it about a week ago? When they smacked the Eagles after running Collingwood so close at the MCG?

alternatively do you think the "game plan" is to fumble and drop chest marks??? about 1/3rd of our list are sound handlers, the rest not so much, no we havnt lucked out in the draft, we have reaped the seeds we sowed by having poor recruiters,

sheez, colb, play in the same game plan and laz but dont fumble
Do you think the game plan is to have a forward line consisting of larkey that is a 2nd tier Fwd with no first tier brute than can take a pack mark??

footy isnt chess,

Oh it’s definitely not chess. But clarko is playing checkers. Who were the Hawks 1st and 2nd tier forwards today? We field an all Australian one every single week. It’s not his fault it goes in only 40 times a game and never to his advantage. Its clear you are not prepared to put any blame on the coach and only have issue with the recruiting which is fine. Plenty of teams get drafting wrong. Plenty of teams have poor development. Very very few start a season 0/11 with an average losing margin of 10 goals. anyway let’s hope the recruiters starting improving as it appears unless we get rolled gold stars in the draft we aren’t in a position to rely on coaching to help us.

Look yeah, it is actually true. From today's team.

Newcombe 22, Worpel 25, Nash 25, Day 23 this week. Moore 24, Jiath 25 in 2 weeks., Scrinshaw 25, Reeves 25, Harwdick 27, Amon 28, Impey 28, Chol 27.

Then you have Sicily 29, Frost 30, Breust 33, Gunston 32.

Over half their team are in that 23-28 age bracket without taking into account their veterans and these blokes that are driving the wins. Reeves is the only bloke you would call fringe.

Maybe you should go off facts, not feels.

Not excusing this horrible year. But Hawthorn have had a level of off-field stability during their rebuild that we could only dream of. Mitchell can coach - we had Noble who couldn’t for two years, and Clarkson’s first year was a write-off. Like it or not this is year 1 of Clarko’s rebuild.

Not excusing some of our performances. I was particularly filthy after the Hawthorn and Adelaide games. I have concerns and doubts.
But a head to head comparison just isn’t valid. It’s simplistic and takes no account of context.

we field a single quality fwd who has never been able to take a pack mark,

the most part imo is they never had a list full of cloggers they had to move so have been able to be more approached and balanced in their recruiting , so they prioritised recruting based on what they needed, and hence they have a more balanced and better quality list. our issues go right back to 2018

And this year, the highest ranked team they've beaten is in 13th.

Assume that was Brisbane? They often tend to be very competitive against the better sides, which bodes well for Mitchell as a coach given they're still a few years away from where they'd want their peak to be. No doubt they're prone to the odd stinker too which you'd expect for a rebuilding team, but they're miles ahead of us despite starting from a similar point in the last couple of years.

Their list management has also been excellent though, whereas ours has been terrible for the most part.

Against port 12 of the blokes we fielded were over 23. Thats not counting the 2, 22 year olds given you listed Newcombe above. That’s over 60% of the team. It’s actually been even higher in the rounds before. Sorry were are my facts wrong?

I pointed out that they were being driven by a large group 23-28 year olds which you side was not true. 75% of their team is over that age.

Hawthorn doing what Hawthorn have done for 50 odd years.

Fair enough. It’s disappointing that we are in the position we are in. Hopefully it turns and we can all stop with the excuses every week

I think we all feel this way.

I'm not as quick to judge the gameplan, though, as we have seen glimpses where it looks good (Freo 1st quarter, for example). But it's slaughtered by skill / execution errors, which are at a ridiculously high level. Improving execution of skills will make the gameplan look better, IMO.

Is it indicative of a gameplan that only works if the opponent applies little to no pressure though? Without fail we go to water whenever the heat starts to be applied.

How much of it is the gameplan and how much of it is the players? Hope it's more the latter obviously but not fully convinced.
