Something about hitting boundaries/sixes?

Yep - sixes in particular. Batsmen who hit 5 sixes or more in a test innings.

I also made it prior to 1990 and the combination of supercharged bats and smaller grounds. Viv did open early in his career so a little liberty was taken.

Not strong in the spin department but pretty comfortable with that pace attack.

The Waugh boys would obviously have to chip in and have a trundle though.

Most capped Australians. It’s quite pleasing they make a decent xi despite a pressing need for a second opener. Luckily next on the list are boon, langer, tubby Taylor and Hayden.

As the tree said to the lumberjack I’m stumped
All I know about Martyn is he’s a CU from the NT, couldn’t connect that with the rest of the xi tho

Freeman was picked off the plane home from the 68 Ashes to play for Port in the finals which pleasingly they ended up losing to Sturt.

All footballers, that’s all I’ve got
Without checking,
  • two openers
  • three middle order bats
  • one all rounder
  • one keeper
  • three fast bowlers
  • one spin bowler

All except Murphy have surnames in the top 20 in Australia, and those are the most capped representatives of each. Martyn = Martin, that’s the cheat. Murphy is among the top 50 most common surnames so he’s the most popular spinner.

Murphy is in the Top 20 Surnames, 20th in that table.

All it was a balanced XI using the top 20 surnames in Australia, with a surname only to be used once in the XI.
