Umpires pulled off quite a feat. They managed to:

- Confirm Judd is their boy toy
- Remove any shred of respectability they had left
- Confirm Carlton are a one man team

All in one night. Good work.

I'm glad I'm not the only one...how can a player who misses three matches for eye gouging win the best & fairest?? It's a f*cking joke! Something really dodgy going on here....

its getting a little boring. Stop sooking- get over the fact that Judd is ahead of Swan by a country mile. you guys never got over Judd not going to Collingwood. Suck it up.

Re: Swan was robbed!

Swan's consistency worked against him in the end. The umpires probably saw his 30+ possession games as no big deal as he does it every week and gave him 0-2 votes.

Whereas when Judd racked up those sort of numbers, they'd see it as something special and just give him high votes (regardless of impact).

Agreed, I think you're spot on there. The only thing I can't work out is how Judd got 3 against Collingwood the first time when we pumped them, and why he got 3 against the Saints when he was very ordinary for his standards. Other than that, I can see why he polled in most of the other games, though the Melbourne game and the Freo game were single vote games at best.

Really, when you think about it, there isn't really anybody else stealing votes off him. Unlike Swan and Ablett where there's Pendles and Selwod.

Read the rules. What season was he reported?

Anyway I'm happy, got on Judd at $23. Winnings will pay for entires families membership next year.

Yeah sounds like you don't care at all LOL

You guys are making something out of nothing, it's not the first or last time the best player for the year didn't win the brownlow.

I'll tell you next dry your tears with a f$%king premiership flag. I think that is worth just a little more.
I don't disagree with you. The Brownlow has always been a mystery.

Not debating Judd's quality as a player.

Judd is a better player than both Ablett AND Swan. But not THIS year he wasn't.

Only Carlton supporters believe otherwise. Had nothing to do with Swan. Check my post history. I tipped Ablett to win it by a mile (take away Judd and he won by a vote).

It's not about Calrton vs Everyone else. It's about the umpires getting it blatantly wrong THIS year.

It's Carlton supporters turning it into a Carlton/Judd bashing extravaganza.

In the end the margin was only 6 points, but what if Carlton had taken its chances in the dying moments of the game and stolen the game....so by your reckoning big Sandi. wouldn't have deserved his 3 votes ???

What about Judd's 3 votes in a side that got beat like a red headed step child. How do explain that?

Regardless of the pavlich incident i think this is a pretty major loophole in the afl rules for Brownlow eligibility. For example in the current situation a player, we'll call him Chris Judd could win the Brownlow for season 2009, play finals and be found guilty of an offence in that final and be suspended for 3 matches. Now because his season is over he serves that penalty in the 2010 season and goes on to win the brownlow for 2010 as well. Which season is he ineligible to win it in?

It's not Judd's fault that he's been awarded the medal so no point bagging him out, good on him.

The AFL however really have a problem with how bad this makes them look. What Judd did to Pav was clearly a reportable/suspendable offence and yet somehow he got away with it.

The people I really feel for out of all of this are Cory McKernan and Chris Grant - to think those guys missed on the Brownlows for picky incidents, with much less impact than what Judd did. Those 2 guys must be absolutely fuming. Makes a mockery of the process. Those 2 guys should have never been reported for their incidents, but now comparing what they got suspended for against what Judd got let off for.....

If it hadn't already lost it's merit, I think the Brownlow certainly lost it tonight. Only thing it's good for is a perve!

Swannie's already a winner in my book with those puppies ;)

The medal is more about shelia's titts and bling than awarding the "Best and Fairest" player of the year.

The AFL's response will be:

Re: Take Brownlow off the Umpires

Just because it wasn't Juddy's best year, doesn't mean he wasn't better than everyone else.

If the umps didn't vote for it, it wouldn't be the Brownlow. Geez, it's not like 1993.

He wasn't better than everyone else. He was better than everyone else in his team by a fair margin. Whereas Swan had other good players, mainly Pendles and Didak, stealing votes off him. This is a reflection of the scoring system.

Maybe the scoring system is what needs to change?

Or we could just leave it as is and try and promote some of the other awards.

Of course he deserved to win it. He's been carrying a very unspectacular midfield for the past three years. Let's see Dane Swan do that. He'd struggle.

Fixing the Brownlow...

Point 1 - Tell the umpires to **** off.

Point 2 - Choose 5 past Brownlow retired winners to act as judges (ask the most recent first)

Point 3 - Have them sit down and watch ( and re-watch) every game of the weekend and cast their votes for 3 2 1.

Point 4 - Equals No more shit results.

Other ideas?

It's been a farce since Jason Dunstall didn't win the Brownlow in 1992 after kicking 145 goals and bloody Scott Wynd won it.

This :thumbsu:

The last forward to win a brownlow was Lockett. Kicking 145 goals should warrant having the brownlow mailed to you in the post and the night called off. What a joke. Any decent midfield can deliver the ball to you, for christs sake the Richmond midfield kicked it to J.Riewoldt all year. How many votes did he get? Franklin should have won it in 08 by 20 votes.

It is a midfielder's award, pure and simple. The umpires do not acknowledge the best players, and the players that have the most influence on a game. Imo if you kick 5+ goals you should be getting 3 votes. You have to be doing something right to do that.

As for the fairest part? Well Judd had a few incidents this year, should have been reported for belting Pavlich. Chris Grant got the chop in 97 or whenever for belting someone.

I am not saying Judd is no good, and he is a gun player, but it's time the umpires start acknowldging the forwards and the backs who win games. How many votes did Taylor and Lake get?

I'm amazes so many seemingly intelligent people here still rate the Brownlows credibility. It's been a midfielders popularity award for a decade. I've rated the MVP higher for some time. I'm stunned others don't. We can't trust umpires to get free kicks right. What chance have they got of getting this right?

Disagree with those having a go at Judd though. How is it his fault?

Re: Swan was robbed!

Judd was not consistent during games this season. If he had of played like he did in the third quarter for teh whole match what would have been the result against Sydney? You may not see the flashiness of Swan but the correlatiopn between Collingwood performing and Swan getting his hands on the ball is clear. He is great for most of the game rather than exceptional in a burst and then ordinary for the rest. Look at our second meeting this year where Carrazo's tag kept Swan possessionless for the first ten minutes and Carlton were in the match if not playing a little better than us. A trip to the pine and a ten possession plus first quarter by Swan saw the game firmly in Collingwood's hands. Just because he is not flashy, don't write off the impact that he can have on the match. Judd has been a champion footballer but he wasn't near the best this season as shown by any other judgement on the players this season.

He has great year Dane, well Done, best pies side in 30 years, would be hard to standout. Juddy well apparently the umpires are biased towards him as umpires generally are biased in the modern world of professional sport. Hey lets compare their stats over the years because they are the same age right?, i wonder if they have been biased all his career, i wonder if he is really that good..mmmm...i wonder if i had to chose which player to pick for my side..who would i choose, a flashy player who is great then "ordinary for the rest" or a player who accumulates possies at will and really hurts you...really he does just look below:
