Blues up 6.1.37 to 3.3.21 at quarter time. We are losing the ruck via Meese and Visser, but are dominating the clearences out of the centre and are trapping the ball in our forward half. Forward line looks much more dangerous with Thornton, Mitchell and Thomas each kicking two goals. Collins and Lucas are the highest ball winners going by my numbers.

New coach, players on notice. 4 handy inclusions for the AFL side. :)

Hypothetically, if we were to trade one of our rucks, would Visser be worth a rookie spot? 18 year old kid and all...

*cue Mitchell for seniors bandwagon*
I don't see much in Mcinnes either and can't believe he's near the selection frame for the seniors.

Harris believes defender Andrew McInnes will be one to watch in the coming weeks after starring over the past month, while Ed Curnow was working hard and bound to return to the senior ranks.

6.3.39 to 10.5.65 at half time and it's back to the bad news Blues that quarter. Still losing the ruck contests and once the rain started that quarter and conditions got a bit scrappy, we started losing the contested ball and the intensity dropped off as we allowed Box Hill to break through our sructure with ease. Lucas, Collins and Curnow kept getting the ball as they did in the first quarter, with Russel and Bower getting more involved that quarter than they were in the first quarter. In the forward line, well, the ball didn't really go in there and when it did it was a scrappy kick that gave the forward almost no chance to mark it.

8.6.54 to 17.7.109 at 3 quarter time. There was a lot of huff and puff from the Blues that quarter, with lots of ball in our forward half, but nobody other than Thornton able to take a mark in the forward line (lots of poor delivery though). When we do turn it over, the Hawks are waltzing through our zone with ease and Blues aren't doing enough to try and stop them. The press is well and truely dead in 2012, but we are still persisting with it.

Luke Mitchell kicks his 3rd goal for the afternoon!

Dylan Buckley coming from the field with a shoulder complaint.

Dylan Buckley has returned to the field. Looks as though he suffered a stinger to his shoulder. Looks ok now

Think we'll see Mitchell debut after another three to six weeks of senior footy.

No to Buckley who should be kept in the VFL until next year. Needs to play at VFL level after having shoulder, ankle and finger injuries in the last 12 months.

Mitchell- Kicked 3 goals, but only had the five possessions going by my count. Very similar to Casboult in the respect that once the ball hits the ground, he's out of the contest. It wasn't a day for marking forwards with the wet ball and poor delivery, so hopefully once he gets more conditioning into his body he will be able to show that he's more than a mark-kick player.

Curnow- Conditions suited his style of play and he put in a four quarter effort. The Blues had the better of the centre clearences most of the day despite a losing ruck combination, largely due to Curnow. Back to back strong performances like he has had must be backed up with senior selection against Collingwood.

Collins- He spent more time in the midfield than he was earlier in the season and he had a decent game. Sometimes he was a bit slow to offload the ball in traffic, which is a bit of a worry when you consider the higher speed they play at in the AFL. He put his body on the line and showed good intensity, which is what you want to see in an experience listed player when they go back to the VFL.

ROK- Lovely user of the ball on most occassions in what were difficult conditions and put his body on the line and showed good intensity most of the day. It's no surprise that we saw this from ROK because every week you know what you will get from him. I don't think he will make it in the AFL, but I won't begrudge him some senior action as a reward for his hard work.

Thornton- The best tall on the ground. Went missing in second and last quarters, but the delivery was awful on occassions and I don't know how he's supposed to mark some of the hit and hope passes that were directed towards him. When we got the ball in there quickly, he was way to good for multiple opponents. Did enough to be promoted next week.

Kerr- Waste of time commenting on him. He started off brightly and did well when the Blues were winning in the opening term, but it got too hard for him once Box Hill got on top and the work rate dropped off.

Lucas- Excellent gut running today and was one of the best on ground. When the game was still alive, he was the best of either team and was an excellent link between defence and attack by playing in between the two fifty metre arcs. The only knock was kicking some aimless floaters inside forward 50. Should be promoted next week.

Mcinnes- Did an okay stopping job in the circumstances, but provided little run off his man and had around 10 possessions max. Not big enough for KPP and not quick enough to stop smalls like Hill, Wanganeen or Frank once the ball hits the deck. Once again I don't see what he did to get named in the best players and he must be a favourite of the coaches to keep getting named in there. Doesn't warrant a senior call up.

Bower- Copped a knock early in the game and came back after quarter time. He spent more time up around half back and beyond getting a bit of the ball, but I don't think he did much damage when he got it. Didn't really knock the door down for a seniors birth. Probably played a bit too much like a dry weather game and didn't adapt to the conditions.

Russel- Had a quiet first quarter when the ball was locked in the Blues forward half, but provided some run off half back after that and did some neat things. Some very courages acts as well which we don't always associate with him. Like Bower, played a bit like a dry weather game and didn't quite bang the door down re: seniors.

Buckley- Had a fight with a ranga from BOX Hill and didn't do much else.

T bird is a must for a recall. Need to play him instead of warnock or Kruzer. Lucas and curnows numbers seem okay. Need to find one a fb if jamo is out. How did bower go today? Not my first choice but what else's we have?

McInnes makes his mark
CARLTON appears likely to blood defender Andrew McInnes for Friday night's crunch match against Collingwood at the MCG after another impressive performance for the Northern Blues in the VFL yesterday.

Bret Thornton, with four goals, Ed Curnow (34 disposals), Andrew Collins (27) and Kane Lucas (32) all impressed but it has been the development of McInnes that has impressed the Blues coaches and it may well earn him a senior debut against the Pies.

McInnes restricted former North Melbourne player Daniel Pratt, now at Box Hill, to just eight touches yesterday.

''The bloke that we're really happy with is Andy McInnes,'' Harris said. ''It's going to give the match committee something to think about, there's no doubt about it.''

McInnes makes his mark

CFC website is saying the Casbolt, Davies and White will all play against Frankston this Sunday. Good to see our depth players coming back
Great news, all are playing for their spot on the list so let's hope they do enough for the rest of the season. Could've been a great season for Davies with Laidler injured but maybe he'll still get a chance.
