I'm not sure that this is clear. Why would he have worded it in this way rather than just say things would remain status quo? My interpretation is he meant a whole new side topped up with outsiders ie a side in, say, the amateur league.

I was basing that on the rumour Dwayne Russell/Caro dropped - that Port could field a reserves team in the VFL. If that's going to happen in 2015, it would be an easier transition from a Magpies team that plays in the sanfl in 2014.

A team in the amateurs next year is an option. But one thing's for sure - we'll have a full reserves side in 2015.

That's a $400k per year commitment. indexed every year. It's a payment of $50k to each of the other 8 SANFL clubs.

And that is asking us to make a commitment before we know what we have to pay for the licence and what the stadium deal is.

^^^this this this. Have been banging on about this for a while, including over on the Cows board. Our execs would be derelict in their duty if they were to commit to the existing deal (particularly for 15 years) when we still have no clear understanding of our revenue moving forward.

(Help me out here if you like REH)
Knowns (to an acceptable degree of accuracy): costs of running footy dept, costs of running licensed premises, costs of marketing and admin, revenue from memberships, revenue from licensed premises, monies from AFL redistribution?, costs of committing to reserves model in 2014 if agreed (fees to other SANFL clubs plus loss of Magpies revenue).

Unknowns: profit model at AO unclear, costs of any licence transfer to AFL (cost borne by us or AFL?), impact on membership and licensed club revenue short and longer term of carving up of our zones under the SANFL reserves model.

Too many grey areas to make a committment to the current model, particularly for a club that this time last year was battling for survival. Unfortunately a couple of poor decisions could see us right back there. Fortunately I have great faith in the current leaders at our club and in my opinion it was never in doubt that they would knock this back. We will get a reserves team but it will be when the conditions put before us make it financially responsible to do so.

Doesn't look like you have missed any major issues KP.

We are still 2 years away from being really solid off field financially. A good result this year is break even after a $2mil loss last year after the extra AFL and SANFL monies. This is the last year of the $2mil from the SANFL.

If I had the mentality of SANFL club "leaders" and expected Port to demand an AFL reserves team under it's own terms for 2015, starting with some fair continuity of the current Magpies structures, and I'd just got a Crows seconds team in as a likely new "biggest drawcard" (thus removing the marketing "need" for a Magpies), I'd vote to expel the Magpies, divvy up and pillage the junior zones, grab as many of the 'homeless' Magpies players as I could for 2014, just to stick it up Port, before Port had time to make a detailed transition plan to VFL or SAAFL or even to the frigging NEAFL.

Pathetic, isn't it ? And we pay these people a fair slab of money every year.

Love how Koch is all over the TV during games, camera's panning in his direction. Only Eddie gets that sort of attention, or Kennett in his day.

I don't recall Eddie ever having THE PRIME MINSTER OF AUSTRALIA as his guest at a football match.

Don't think Eddie was a fan of Johnny Howard so probably not between 199 and 2007. Ruddie maybe? I wouldn't be surprised if Julia was invited to be his guest at a collingwood v doggies home game and all the stuff around Rob Rose that goes on when they clash.

But yeah it was great for Port and loved the picture and Boakie on front page of the sunday mail and the line about only one of these men is looking forward to September.

I most certainly did... he was coy about it and smirked to Ken... and said along the lines that "it was at a level far below the AFL". Part of me thought he was either going to play somewhere with his mates (SAAFL or Country) or perhaps a PAFC team in the SAAFL.

Yeah I heard him mention it in an interview yesterday, it was going to be somewhere playing with a bunch of mates and it wouldn't be with Port.

Definitely sounded like a country/ ammos team to me.

Could be with one of the James in the Barossa or Hill league perhaps I would suggest Barossa as they pay so good dollars, he would dominate

It was pretty slick how he was interviewed at half time of the crows home showdown. No sign of Rob Chapman.
Didn't Wrinkles and Stupid have a go at Kochie when he was first appointed that there was no way he could be the President/Chairman of the PAFC while living in Sydney?

Ressies next year according to Abba ??

Power ressies to play in the prison bars in the SANFL with juniors to be phased out. Top up players to come from Port Adelaide Maggies playing in the SAAFL.

BOOOOOO!

That can't be true. It would mean, after all that, we caved on everything except for the concept of having a team made up of other SANFL team rejects.

A Port SAAFL team could back up the rumour about Megahead playing in the Ammos next year, though.

If we have caved, it means that neither Koch nor Thomas fully understand what it is to be Port Adelaide. It's not about a ****ing name, or a jumper. It's about controlling your own destiny, and carving your own path. "It matters not how strait the gate, how charged with punishments the scroll. I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul." Don't they read Invictus?

Honestly, and I mean this with all respect, **** this bastardized version of the Magpies if this goes ahead. I was a Club 1870 member, but I won't be next year if it means I'm throwing support behind this shitty proposal.

I don't know about that. At the end of the day, its likely we're going to lose all that at the end of next year anyway, and they've both pushed and pushed to change this. If this new news is indeed true, which I'm very skeptical about, then maybe there was just no other option. They've done everything so far to keep the Magpies, as is, complete with community ties and junior zones, I doubt they'd suddenly change their minds now without a good reason.
