Re: Trade Week 08 = Non-Event

I blame Pelikan from Hawthorn. He slows down trade week every year. One day he may actually suprise me and be involved in a trade that benfits both clubs!!

You would say that wouldn't you. If your recruiting manager had a clue maybe he would think before taking big name injury prone players.:thumbsu:

Re: Trade Week 08 = Non-Event

You're kidding me... 1 trade so far..

Teams are taking the GC17 thing way too seriously.. So you want to hold onto draft picks, what is stopping player for player trades? Surely player X suits team Y better than his current team, etc... And in any regards, draft picks are over-rated. This is a 'deep' draft, pfft. Generally, picks outside the first 2 rounds are spuds. And half the time first and 2nd rounders turn out the same. Established player (who isn't a fossile, obviously) >>> unknown rookie... much rather a 21-22 y/o who has been in the system abnd developing an AFL body, than some mup who will take 3 yrs to do anything.

make some trades! no action in trade week tells me most teams think all their probs will be solved in the draft, lol, right-o

Re: Trade Week 08 = Non-Event

No enough action even though half of the clubs have been talking to each other for the past 6 weeks. Simple solution would be to say;

Day 1 & 2 - Trading is free
Day 3 - $10,000 per trade per club
Day 4 - $25,000 per trade per club
Day 5 - $50,000 per trade per club
and if you aren't good enough to get them through on time after day 5 you can pay $100,000 per trade up until the draft.

This way the trades will go thru quicker in days 1 & 2 and if a club is really keen they can pay to do it later.

Then see what happens in the 1st two days.

LOL what a joke.

I actually agree on the concept of shortening the trade week, but...

1. Who would fine the clubs for taking longer then 1 day? The AFL? Why would they care if trades take longer then 1 day? They;v eset a 5 day time period and once that's finished, it's all over. I don't understand the motivation.

2. Where would the money go?

Ridiculous suggestion.

Re: Trade Week 08 = Non-Event

WTF is wrong with you people? It is not an entertainment event! Why should they have to get the trades done within the first couple of days. Let them take their time if they want!

So what?
It isn't meant to be a spectator event

Re: Trade Week 08 = Non-Event

I find the ones complaining about the lack of action are the ones who have spouted rubbish deals like crap player + shit pick for a better player / pick during the entire year. Perhaps they are waking up to the fact clubs are not willing to part with something for any old trash that gets thrown up.

They also tend to be the ones against the NAB Cup and the ones wanting the season to be extended.

FFS, like the NAB Cup, Trade Week is not for the fans' entertainment.

Once they start selling tickets and building stands in the TD boardroom you know times will have changed.

And if you want a free-agency, bring back retention allowances.

1. I didn't use the word fine. It would be a "fee" to the AFL after days one & two. Incentive would be to push the clubs into acting quicker especially since most have been dealing for the past six weeks, but give them the opportunity to get deals done that seem to take forever. Also it gives a club/clubs a chance to do a deal late without the bullshit story of a fax/wrong door senario in the last minutes and the player who doesn't get stuck at playing for a club that was prepared to trade him two minutes earlier.

2. AFL - where else ??

Re: Trade Week 08 = Non-Event

If i recall correctly, this time last year there were only 2 trades complete
Judd to carlton
Mattner to swans

Yet there was almost a record for ammount of trades last year

Yep. It's the best strategy to make your offers late. No-one will agree to anything early in the week because everyone is waiting for that better deal to pop up. I'd be surprised if there weren't at least 5 trades confirmed tomorrow.

Re: Trade Week 08 = Non-Event

Why?

Seriously why?

The only reasons anyone has put up for why we need to modify the trade week is to make it more exciting. Hint people: it's not meant to be exciting. It's meant to be about trading players.

It can be less exciting than a watching Italy play soccer, and it doesn't matter. If you want to relieve your boredom, go do something else until the close of trading on Friday, then have a look and you can find out all the trades at once!

While its boring from a fan perspective there is no point in clubs finalising trades early. Why sign off on a deal when there is a possibility you could get a better deal elsewhere later on in the week? Im sure there are alot of verbal deals already completed and clubs are just waiting to see what else happens before the sign the paperwork. Just like last year, expect a pile of trades to come through in the last few hours.
