Impossible to call it really. Wouldn’t rate Pallister or even Bruce anywhere near those names though, and sorry but Tony Adams was about as clumsy a footballer as I’ve seen. Brilliant captain, great in the air and clearing his lines, but with the ball at his feet he was Lol worthy
Joe Cole another name to throw in the mix of talent.

Might have been clumsy, but he could bloody defend.

Hargreaves another one. Was our best player at the 2006 WC. Such a shame injuries stopped him in his tracks soon after

What about Ray Parlour? Lee Dixon? Winterburn?
No not really. Average players in the grand scheme of things. I probably played football against the Romford Pele. He was in my year and I know we played the school he went to.

But won nothing.

You're seriously trying to attempt to compare Newcastle Against the records of Man Utd, Arsenal & Chelsea during that era? ….Oh deAr.

Ok..

They came second in Shearer's first season and finished top four in a fair few others.

Weird flex.

The more astute posters would have recognised that I was actually praising Shearer & even Gerrard, for having made the greatest EPL side, in spite of not having played in the Big 4 clubs of the era.....all the more credit to them both, for their remarkable careers in spite of the ordinary sides they played in.

No retort on the Blackburn comment funnily enough.

Here's the post I replied to for context:

"Gonna be weighted towards the players who played for the best clubs at that time though I guess."

Blackburn had 1 super year, only to be relegated not long thereafter. Newcastle had a good patch of 4-5 years, only to then drop back down to mid-table mediocrity & then in & out of the League, as a well renowned yoyo side….anyone claiming either of those 2 sides as inclusive in 'the best clubs in the EPL era' of some 28 seasons, is deluded.

The more astute posters would be aware you were trying to write Newcastle of that era off as not one of the big clubs of that era as if you had a clue what you were talking about
