The Pies/Bombers ANZAC day game is just a H&A game between two teams I Hate

Never been then?

As a neutral it was one of the best things ive done in my life.

Brilliant atmosphere, done really well to respect a big part of Australian history.

The year I went there werent even any w***kers that yelled out during the minutes silence. Its an amazing and weird experience having 100,000 people dead silent.

I dunno i went in 2005 and yeah it was just another H&A match.

I find the massive hypebole by ch 7 and herald dumb nauseating, the same could be said for their pre game intro yesterday. Its basically grand final day minus the grand final. The words and emotive slogans used, the slow moe of past games, the emotive phrases, the bloody ch 7 old guy with the smokers voice trying to make it into the best spectacle of the year.

Its so very cringeworthy.

I agree in sentiment however you're wrong.

What other home and away games have the last post, the anthem played, the football arriving by helicopter, an ANZAC medal etc.

Its a special day for football, for Australia and especially for those men and women who fought for our freedom all those years ago.
It has a different feel about it, the game, the atmosphere, form lines go out the window....

Ahhh the annual 'booooo ANZAC Day game' thread. You do realise it's people like yourself posting trash like this which continues to perpetuate the idea of the game being one of the biggest on the calendar.

I go every year, it's very rare someone makes any noise during the minutes silence. Last time I heard of it happening was years ago, it wasn't even a supporter of either club, it was just some neutral who was already pissed. Got kicked out quick smart.

Two mid table clubs fighting over who is the best of the average.

The Anzac medal is a disgrace too and an insult to the true heroes of battle. Who is the least spuddiest spud. What an honour.

Why?
Its not claimed to be for anything other than best and fairest in a football game. Nobody pretends its anything different.

Said from the perspective of a true easter monday loser.

Yeah, sure muggy. If you say so.

An Anzac Medal to the best player in a sporting event? Wow, have we gotten our priorities all wrong. As the son and grandson of long serving military men I can tell you how insulting it is.

There is no need for that pomp at all. I am not a war monger and hate the fact that countries need to celebrate men killed for no reason than some speed freaks megolamanic ways. But thats a different topic.

Its a cringeworthy day for me and a lot of people.

If returned service men and women had a problem with the naming of the medal it wouldn't carry the name. Stop creating outrage where it doesn't even exist.

I understand the hype, but yeah, players seem to get given credit for performing on the day, and Hird even gets acknowledged as a however many time Anzac day medallist. Really, it's no more auspicious than the Hird/Archer Medallist or the Parkin Medallist, or the Ross Glendenning medallist or whatever stupid medal each club has for cups/games played between two teams.

Overall, I like the day, but it's still just a Home and Away game and not worth anymore or any less than 4 points (unless there is a draw, then it's only worth two points.....but you get my drift).

That being said, I think the clubs do it very well.

Least spuddiest spud is getting pretty carried away, given that Hird, Mercuri, Pendlebury and Swan have won it.

I love the day and think they do most of it well.

That being said, the one thing I don't like is this association with ANZAC spirit. It's crass and borders on the insulting. The medal goes to whoever done did a good football. It should be left at that. Perhaps named after a player who served, but let's not pretend we can compare footballers with the armed forces.
