Poor Belly indeed... I'll never ever understand why everybody found that extremely common expression so funny.

"A feather! In his cap! How droll!"
I imagine Belly walking around Melbourne wearing a trilby full of magnificent feathers and with each trade adding one larger and more extravagant. When he arrives home he carefully wraps the feathers individually in fine paper, ready for the next trade period.

I think the supporter base should buy him a very nice designer style hat that has a feather or something similar in it for him to wear with a suit on trade week. Would be HILARIOUS

love that we've stuck with the Treacy/Amiss/MJ show. Kept hearing about being too tall forward on here but all they needed was to work out their patterns and structure together and bam, we have a forward line. With one marking on the wing, leaving one leading to the 50 and the third hanging about the square, there are dangerous marking options at each line, something we really missed in the early weeks trying to get the ball up the ground. And they're only going to get better.

From a list management perspective, the only definite short term need is the Walters replacement as for all Shultz's hard work, the crafty goal sneak that is Walters, Betts, Rankine, Rachelle, Cyril, etc. are gold when you are contending, who can make something out of nothing and turning momentum when things stop going your way.

The Treacy, Jackson, Amiss forward structure works well despite being tallish because Treacy and Jacko chase hard and tackle with intent. Amiss to a lesser degree but he is still accountable.

I told my missus the triple J nickname and she called them the J'abies cause they're so young....
Jelly Babies is what we can call the supporters from other clubs who give us shit about our tall forwarders. It'll take them 2 years to figure out that we've turned it around.

Exactly this, they're not too tall because they don't only play tall. Treacy has a huge tank, great field kick and a turn of speed only Switta wouldn't worry about so is perfect up field, but he's also a wrecking ball and will half most contests regardless of numbers. Jackson has an incredible ground game, is a massive unit, not too slow, links up well, but can also clunk a mark and finish them. Amiss is your more traditional FF, but even he's got some chops when it comes to defensive efforts. All in all a highly flexible and versatile unit.

Last season only Lobb (1.7) and Taberner (1.8) averaged a goal and a half a game.

To this point in the season there are 4, Schultz (1.7), Amiss (1.6), Walters (1.6) and Frederick (1.6).

Additionally Jackson and Treacy are averaging 1.3.

Jackson is averaging 1.7 over the last 7.
If the 8 first choice forwards played the rest of the season and produced at the same rate they are currently.

Amiss 42 (22 games) (19@1.9)
Walters 38 (21 games) (16@1.8)
Schultz 37 (23 games) (17@1.6)
Frederick 33 (21 games) (14@1.6)
Jackson 27 (23 games) (13@1.2)
Treacy 24 (17 games) (7@1.4)
Banfield 22 (22 games) (10@1.0)
Switkowski 20 (22 games) (9@0.9)

Look I don't want to be accused over indulging in hype but I'm thinking Brayshaw, Serong, Johnson, Erasmus, Jackson, Darcy 2025/26 is a God level, Brisbane Lions early naughties midfield.
It's going to be interesting seeing how we perform the next season and half whilst Fyfe and O'Meara are still about and the younger mids are still a way off nearing their peak.

Going out on a limb here, but I suspect Darcy is a better player than Clark Keating;)

I honestly dont care anymore what we give Melbourne even though I'll forever stick to my guns it was poor / weak trading. Jackson is good enough and the combination with Darcy works incredibly well that I dont care. Jackson is and will be a massive point of difference that we didnt have before

Having him play number 1 ruck is so so wasteful

Exactly. AT this stage of his career Luke J is a far more damaging weapon as a midfielder or a flank forward, he absolutely should never ruck under any circumstances for any reason for more than 40% of a game. Once he gets into his late 20s things might change and hew may become more suited to a greater ruck role, but we need to be selecting a Reidy, or having a Treacy play main ruck, instead of expecting Jackson to be a number 1 ruck.

Hayden Young had a nice little stint in the middle in the last qtr. Glimpse into the future maybe
